For shooting, is there any advantage on the radioactive version or is this a collector value? Thank you so much 😊 Depends on how you define advantage. Over time often the radioactive lenses of manufacturers slightly darken a light brown Some photographers believe this makes them appealing to B&W shooters, as the coloration acts like a weak filter. The discoloration can often be removed by extended exposure to direct sunlight...I've done this with several Pentax lenses, which after a week or so of controlled exposure became crystal clear. One just has to ensure that the process doesn't overheat the lens and its helicals. I wrapped the lens in aluminum foil to redirect the heat, and mounted the lenses onto a tripod which I could position directly at the sun, changing each day sun entering the front element and then sun entering the rear element. 1

I see, thanks a lot. Sounds like I better try a normal one if I can find one in good condition. The comments on this thread and on the forum seem very positive. Would love to see more samples, especially wide open. Edited September 28, 2021 by Aryel

Aryel Posted September 29, 2021 Share #104 Posted September 29, 2021 @Erato: Thanks a lot for sharing. Seeing the cat shot @f2 is really nice. I really like this kind of soft/sharp rendering. Really appreciate seeing these, I am ordering one in to try it out. Love your Flickr, lot of beautiful images to explore. A bit off topic: which coffee maker are you using? Looks a bit like a v60 but with a different filter…. (the one on the left @f5.6). 1

I hope you enjoy this old lens as I am. This vintage lens is another legendary gem for sure. Regarding the pour over cave(dripper stacking upon the V60) is made by a Japanese company "Rivers Co., Ltd." -- COFFEE POUR OVERSET (CAVE-R/POND-F). However, there's something "right" or appealing in the pictures by the old Summicron. I may have tried more 50mm lenses than I have years, and I like the photos it makes a lot. This is all personal of course, and I never get tired of more samples from this lens design. 5

tommonego@gmail.com Posted March 20, 2022 Share #114 Posted March 20, 2022 I have a 1953 V1 Summicron, beyond the radioactive serial numbers it has been a nice lens, I don't use 50s that much, prefer 35mm. Here is a photo off my M8 at either f2 or f2.8.

a.noctilux Posted August 5, 2023 Share #118 Posted August 5, 2023 I have one collapsible from 1951, just to share that the glass of this more than 72 years old wonderful lens is "like new". I must use this lens more often, I wonder if the metal is brass like these oldies... proud shining brass, duller is maybe not cleaned (sorry not taken with the lens we talk about here) Welcome, dear visitor!
