jazzwave Posted August 7, 2011 Author Share #21 Posted August 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Gents, Forgive me to keep you busy with my next question. I don't have experience with wide lens except Nokton 35/1.4, which not wide enough for me. Found another wide lens :Ultron 28/2 or 28/1.9 (add $100) This lens give more speed (f2) and posibility shallow DoF...what dou you think? for M8 and M4. I will use wide lens for, lanscape and street photography. thanks

!Nomad64 Posted August 7, 2011 Share #23 Posted August 7, 2011 Only you can know what lens suits you best. Pls bear in mind that on an M8 a 28mm will become a 37, not exactly very a wide angle. If it's *wide* that you want and depending from your tastes you might want to extend your set. Say 21+28 or 25+35 plus the other lenses. Personally speaking with the M8 the set 24/50/90 covered everything I liked to do, but with the M3 I had to add a 35 to fill the gap between 24 and 50. Cheers, Bruno
roguewave Posted August 7, 2011 Share #24 Posted August 7, 2011 Although it may be out of your price range, the Zeiss Biogon 21 ZM T, 2.8 is a most excellent lens. You do not need an external viewfinder, as the full frame of the rangefinder window works perfectly. I bought mine used from a longtime LUF member and consider it an outstanding lens in every way. Color is amazing, very sharp and because of the crop on an M8, the far corners where things go awry are no longer an issue. I use this lens in the NYC subway all the time. No harsh flare and it's a dream to focus. It costs a bit more, but the build and the images are MUCH better than the CV lenses. Also, it's a whole lot faster. I use a Leica R19 2.8 with my DMR all the time & the Zeiss 21 is very close to being as good.

lct Posted October 21, 2011 Share #26 Posted October 21, 2011 Great little lens indeed. I don't get much flare with mine. Have you been using a filter? The LH-1 hood will block your viewfinder a lot i'm afraid (http://tinyurl.com/5suaauu). I use the rubber hood of the Summicron-C 40/2 personally (hood # 12518, hood cap # 14191). Works fine on the M8 where it blocks just a bit the 28mm frame lines at infinity. Better not screw it too tightly onto the lens though as it has not the same filter thread. Screwing it onto a filter is to be avoided as well because of vignetting. FWIW. Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted November 13, 2011 Share #28 Posted November 13, 2011 About CV 21/4 flare. Shot this one in contre-jour to test flare with filter on. Hard to complain IMO. http://tinyurl.com/bnfmzbs (8MB file)
Double Negative Posted November 21, 2011 Share #29 Posted November 21, 2011 On the M8, my favorite lens was easily the Zeiss Biogon T* 2,8/25 ZM (review). While maybe not the fastest lens, it sure is among the sharpest. Made for a great ~35mm equivalent on the M8. Everything that's good about Zeiss in this one and I pretty much picked my lenses out around IT.
ErikP Posted March 20, 2012 Share #30 Posted March 20, 2012 Reading your thread made me buying a CV21 P yesterday. Hope to try it out this weekend on the M8. I actually are looking at the square hood from Camera Quest. Anyone that can comment on how much the finder will be blocket on the M8? I didn't use filter.Actually , little flare not bother me.....it's part of "art of photography"...
IWC Doppel Posted March 25, 2012 Share #31 Posted March 25, 2012 I have a 21 Elmarit F2.8 asph and a 24 Elmarit F2.8 asph. both are wonderful on the M8, If I had to keep one I would need to really think and consider, they are different and both have qualities. I think I would keep the 21 on the M8, but that may change when I finally get my 9.... The 21 feels wide and the perspective is wide. It looks a feels like a cropped very wide angle and offers really interesting perspectives in busy bus sling scenes as well as painting landscapes beautifully. You will be happy with either even if you already have a 28mm
