jonoslack Posted February 9, 2007 Share #1 Posted February 9, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi There I've been on a business trip in Holland this week - not too much photography, but on the way to Antwerp for an evening meal we stopped at Lillo - strange and empty - here is the harbour: 50mm 'cron f2 1/22 second (I think!) Advertisement Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Hi jonoslack, Take a look here Lillo (near Antwerp) and M8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
robert_parker Posted February 9, 2007 Share #2 Posted February 9, 2007 Jono Hugely atmospheric and the natural colour cast is very effective
Guest WPalank Posted February 9, 2007 Share #3 Posted February 9, 2007 Very nice Jono! I can hear the fog horns looming in the background.
leicamann Posted February 10, 2007 Share #4 Posted February 10, 2007 Not bad..I would have "walked in" to get a better crop from the left..that huge beam is a bit distracting Thanks for sharing Regards, Leicamann
stuny Posted February 10, 2007 Share #5 Posted February 10, 2007 Jonathan - Lovely, atmospheric, mysterious without being foreboding. I might have done what John suggests, as well as to lean a bit to the left after moving. Then again, it might not have worked.
jonoslack Posted February 10, 2007 Author Share #6 Posted February 10, 2007 Hi there - many thanks for responding Robert and William - thanks for the remarks - it was a spooky place, rather like something out of a John Le Carre novel - very atmostpheric. Stuart and William Thanks for the suggestion - it was an interesting problem - I needed to keep a wide aperture to be able to hand hold (nearest tripod 100 miles away!) - so depth of field was always going to be a bit of an issue. I took lots of shots, and without the big beam on the left it seems to me to lose the looming atmosphere (try it on your screen). As for tilting to the left - well, it's straight (at least, the horizon is straight, the beams were on the piss). Of course, one makes these decisions for reasons - but it's always possible to be wrong Thanks again for commenting
ECliffordSmith Posted February 11, 2007 Share #7 Posted February 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jono, I like the mood you have created in this image very much. Did you make it to Antwerp itself?
Photoskeptic Posted February 11, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 11, 2007 Jono, good to see you got your M8 back. Lovely shot. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Trying to decide if I really want to get rid of the D200. It appears the M8 is now in fairly plentiful supply here across the pond. Meanwhile I (always) continue to shoot the M4. Cheers, John

HI Ed yes - Lillo is a fort? just near the docks, strange place, I was taken there in the fog, hence the shot. Glad you like it.

wilfredo Posted February 12, 2007 Share #11 Posted February 12, 2007 Very moody. Would love to see a B&W version. Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
fotografr Posted February 12, 2007 Share #12 Posted February 12, 2007 Lovely scene and nicely composed, however, this is one of those images I would prefer in b&w and with some grain added. I did a conversion and it really looks very nice.
