What would you trade for a new lens?

Since owning a 35mm 1.2 Nokton I've pretty much not been using my 50mm Cron at all. I think it's just clicked that I really like the 35mm FOV. The 50mm is a lovely lens but I love the 1.2 and seems to be on my M9 all the time.

I also have a 90mm Summarit which I really like for grabbing distant candids. On a recent trip I used it once. I used the 50mm never and the Nokton 35 all the time.

So..in a fit of madness I'm thinking of chopping them all in for a 35 Summilux ASPH (if I could find one) It may make the cost slightly more bearable- but then I'd be losing the 3 lens kit (holy trinity etc) for a one lens system..for the immediate future anyway.

Alternatively I could look at getting a 50 'lux by part-exing the 50 Cron and possibly the 90mm Summarit. Or keeping the 90mm and then putting towards the 50 'lux

Advice? Comments?

Get rid of Nokton and Summarit.

Summarit has a low resale value.

Keep the Cron. But you still have to puke lots of cocos extra for the Lux

Now you will feel on your skin if the Summarit was a good invrstment or not. You lucky if you can get half of what you payed for it. (if you get it new)

If I were you I will get rid of the two and get a used 35 Cron asph.

As for the 90 I think the best will be a Elmarit 2.8 It's not that expensive.

Looking at your gallery, I see quite a number of close ups, products, stills, people shots. Unless you use another system as well, I'm not sure the M with a lonely 35mm will serve your shooting style in the long run.

This is a spoof post some one has hacked Vals account... or he has no practical knowledge of 2nd hand prices or lens performance.

Sell the 5cm and 9cm lenses on forum classifieds, keep the f/1.2. Buy a f2.5 CV or Summarit 35mm if you dont like the size of the /1.2 on the camera, swap when the light fades.

Lot of my friends are happy with their /1.2, lots only use one lens.

Thanks for looking at my site. I've only had the M9 for about 6 months and still a little conservative about using it for my commercial work.

I have a full Canon kit which I use in the main. I take the Leica with me so I can build up my portfolio (and confidence) of using it 'on the job'.

I'm not sure I understand. You have found that you especially like the 35mm FOV and rarely use your existing 50mm lens but you might "look at getting a 50 'lux".

I now have the current 35mm Summilux and it is a sensationally good lens - especially if sharpness is your thing. However, I can't imagine that it creates better photographs than a 35mm Nokton.

I see several options for you, namely:

1 - Keep the Nokton you like so much and try pairing it to an used 'lux 75. If you seldom use 50 & 90 the 75 might resume both into one that ensures you speed enough. You'll just have to walk a bit more...

2 - Keep the Nokton, save some cash and... treat yourself with an used Noctilux. Otherwise get yourself a Nokton 50/1.1.

3 - 1 or 2 as above but getting a 35 'lux as you said...

Hope this helps

Bruno

Sorry - I meant that I rarely use it because I shoot a lot in low light.

OK then keep the 35 and 90 you like why changing? If you feel a gap between them, fast 50s can be had at more affordable prices than the Summilux 50 asph... Unless GAS is your problem of course! :D

That's an interesting idea..never thought about the 75mm. I'd then end up with a 35mm and 75mm.
