Keith (M) Posted July 14, 2011 Share #1 Posted July 14, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I came across a lens for sale listed as an Elmar-M 35mm f2.8 but the original box shows the name as Summaron, Type 11306. Leica WiKi does not appear to list it and the only information I have found is in Erwin Puts's Leica PocketPod. This shows that 3,000 were made in 1968. Were they also known as an Elmar or has the seller got it wrong? Does anyone have one or has ever used one? If so, how do they perform (the intended use it only on my M7) ? Advertisement Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Hi Keith (M), Take a look here Summaron 35mm f2.8 Type 11306?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted July 14, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2011 Keith, I think you might find your answer in this thread. Pete.
wda Posted July 14, 2011 Share #3 Posted July 14, 2011 Keith I have never owned one but it belongs to that early generation of lenses which preceded the first 35mm Summicron. Some forum members love the soft signature which is probably typical of early 1950s design (or even earlier). Search the forum and you will find pictures taken with the lens. (If they are key-worded!)
Keith (M) Posted July 14, 2011 Author Share #4 Posted July 14, 2011 Keith, I think you might find your answer in this thread. Pete. Thanks Peter but that refers to the earlier f3.5 whereas the one in question is a f2.8 from 1968 (seemingly the only year they were made). farnz Posted July 14, 2011 Share #5 Posted July 14, 2011 Ah yes, Keith, I wasn't paying enough attention. None of Ghester Sartorius nor Rogliatti nor the 7th Edition Leica pocket book nor Puts's Lens Compendium lists an Elmar 35/2.8, and I only found one reference after a quick Google but I suspect the gent was referring to a Summaron 35/2.8. Might I suggest starting a thread with the question on the Collectors &Historica forum here because if anyone will know JC Braconi, Luigi Bartoletti, or Pecole will and they're unlikely to see this thread here. lct Posted July 14, 2011 Share #6 Posted July 14, 2011 I came across a lens for sale listed as an Elmar-M 35mm f2.8 but the original box shows the name as Summaron, Type 11306... Were they also known as an Elmar or has the seller got it wrong?... Never heard of an Elmar 35/2.8 so far. The Summaron 35/2.8 # 11306 (1958-1974) is less contrasty than modern glass but it is quite a sharp lens with smooth bokeh. Yes, as above said, no ELMAR 35 f 2,8 exists : Summaron is well known, not rare, and an appreciable lens (considering its age) if in good conditions. wda Posted July 15, 2011 Share #8 Posted July 15, 2011 My reply at #3 referred to your title description of the lens, not the label shown by the dealer.
