ho_co Posted July 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted July 10, 2011 Robert, welcome to the forum! And congratulations on finding the Elpro! There's not much to know about it IMHO. It doesn't make any difference to using the camera, just brings the focus distance down to half what it was before. All the controls work the same, there's no exposure difference, just a closer focus. That's one of the benefits of the Elpros: no change in function, but a high-quality image at closer distance. I've owned one for several years and further to what Howard said just screw it to the front of the lens set the focus ring to Macro Focus and start shooting. The exposure value is unaffected and it works through the full zoom range without a problem. When you feel ready I hope you'll post some photos in the Forum's photo forums. Pete. WHat was the orignal price of this nice glass? I got mine for two hundred fifty clams and thought that was a decent (not great) buy, especially given the ones I;ve seen on ebay lately for about double that 2. I did not get any instruction/paper insert-- was there one originally? if so, what did it say? 3. Do we know what the minimal effective focal distance is? Many Thanks! The amount $289 keeps coming to mind. Though I haven't checked this it feels as though it cuts the lens to subject distance by one half. As I recall there was no paper explaining anything with it, and as Pete observes above, it came in a cardboard box slightly larger than the Elpro. I keep mine in a clear hard plastic hockey puck case with the opening edges "painted" with red nail polish to help me figure out how to open it. DavidE Posted July 18, 2011 Share #13 Posted July 18, 2011 When I bought the excellent Canon 58mm close up lens 250D (retail c. £80) and step down Kood rings they also arrived in a flimsy cardboard box. Cost effective solution c £2 :- Have a look in the kitchen cupboards/supermarket or workshop/garage for strong plastic food or similar containers that have the right diameter and then cut down to size to contain the CU lens. Then cover with self adhesive felt ( Alkhor Venilia or similar) to protect lens inside etc. The lid in the photo is from a gravy granule container and the other 'lid' ,as far as I can remember came from the same container.: Visiting a supermarket to size up the containers with your close up lens in your hand usually attracts the attention of security personnel: If a suitable sized container could be found this system could also be used to protect a lens of any size. Hi Stuart, The foray into the kitchen/dining room ( a no-go area for me except to eat) looking for suitable containers caused deep suspicion from my wife, Sue. She was particularly 'pleased" when she subsequently found various products sans identifying containers with contents sealed in plastic bags - unlabelled ! Hello Guy, I tried to source a single reducing ring but to no avail. The Kood rings are well made and screw together and on the front of the D2 lens (without lens hood). Lens thickness including rings is 20mm. I tend to use the D2 set to ' AF- Macro' or use manual focus at 90mm.
