Hi Albert,

Nice and lovely portrait of your wife taken at 1250 Iso and without too much grain !

Here another pictures of our cathedral 800th anniversary taken in full dark

at 1250 Iso:

and 2500 Iso (after new firmware) :

It's a projection of different colors that highlight the sculptures of the cathedral as statues, columns or central rose :)

So we both see great improvements in high iso grain, and details.:):)

There are other improvements too.

I used to have what I might call a quick-release shake: when waking the camera too fast (not wait 2 seconds) the camera assumed a low-lighting conditions. (factor 5 or so).

I have never seen anyone that reported about that 'malfunction' though.

That seems to be gone in the new firmware too.

I still get a lot of shadow noise at 1250 iso but it looks less dirty and hides less details than before the firmware update (or alleged placebo effect). M8.2, Elmar-M 50/2.8, f/16, 1250 iso, IR-cut filter, C1 v4 default, greens adjusted in CS3: http://tinyurl.com/637j4ao (13 MB file).

Pleasing to look at.

Very impressive! We trade a bit of details to get real-life rendering.

Take that word 'impressive' as reminding of Impressionism' and 'Pointilism'. We don't need details, we need a rendering that looks good, by having a bit of masking. Indeed, the shadows have a life of their own at this speed and I like it.

My experience : it does need correct exposure, maybe + 1/3 to 1/2 EV (I have a habit to underexpose my 160 A pictures.)
