billh Posted February 7, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted February 7, 2007 Thanks guys. William, we had 1.8 inches (45 mm) of snow. They’ve closed the schools. Amazing, isn’t it?

lambroving Posted February 8, 2007 Share #8 Posted February 8, 2007 Cold, but exceptionally beautiful. I had no idea there were places like this near you. You'll have to get out more. Brent, It's just up the road from Bill. Don't you remember his shots of the falls on the old Forum? Those were great too but I can't find them to link here. Bill must know those falls like the back of his hand, but I'm still not brave enough to go out in this cold! Bill, If you remember the title of those other shots, let me know and I'll find them if they were after 2004, or just re-post them here. Better they close the schools since hardly anyone in VA knows how to drive a minivan in it! Here it's too cold to snow except for some "lake effect" which dumps 1 - 3 cm. periodically. It's the stuff which comes up the coast which leaves 1/2 m here overnight. I hope we get a miss this winter as I'm in no mood. Still, it's been bone-chilling for 10 days now. Might break freezing briefly on Sunday.
billh Posted February 9, 2007 Author Share #9 Posted February 9, 2007 Thanks Ed. That composition appealed to me too. Brent, When I was a kid this entire area was like this - now most of it is paved and full of people. William, I’m not sure - it may have been this one, http://homepage.mac.com/billh96007/.Pictures/180-300/Isabel-at-Sunrise.jpg Or possibly a jpeg form this file (warning, Large file) http://homepage.mac.com/billh96007/.Pictures/Great%20Falls%20web/180-%232,MAC.jpg

billh Posted February 11, 2007 Author Share #14 Posted February 11, 2007 Thank you François. Hi John - I think this is just human nature. When it was 70 degrees we were all complaining about it being unnatural. Now when it is in the single digits and teens, we are again complaining, but this time about the cold. Hasn’t your weather been unusually severe this season? I have friends on Whidbey Island (Seattle), and they have been getting pounded with storms. Of course it does not help that they moved there from sunny Santa Barbara. The bright spot is one of them went from 80 hour plus weeks to a normal schedule teaching at the med school there, and the Bouviers love the cold, wet, windy weather. The older dog is reported to have been “rejuvenated”. Bill
