per cognoscenti Posted June 10, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am new to the forum and I am thinking of going back to film. I have always wanted a Leica and probably the M6 is the only body in my budget's price range. My query is about film processing rather than the camera itself. Whilst I have processed film in the past, i have no wish to revisit this for the time being and wondered if there are processing outlets which not only process but also scan to RAW. Thanks Mark
Advertisement Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Hi per cognoscenti, Take a look here M6 TTL Advice - Processing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Stealth3kpl Posted June 10, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 10, 2011 Where are you? Lots of places process and scan but you'll most likely need to post unless you're in a big city. RAW scans aren't available only TIFFs of various sizes. Not sure why RAWs aren't possible. That would be "a load off" as they say. Pete
Xmas Posted June 10, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 10, 2011 Hi If you use C41 color negative or C41 monochrome the 'supermarket' or high street mini labs can make a scan to a CD fast trun around relatively cheap. They seem to be dissappearing fast so be quick. If you are happy with a separate meter the M4-2, M2 or M4-P is cheaper than M6. If you are fussy about lenses they are in short supply. Stealth3kpl Posted June 10, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2011 I think there have been a couple of threads in the recent past about processors. I use Palm labs in birmigham. Andy Barton uses Peak. Earleygallery likes snappysnaps. Pete
250swb Posted June 11, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 11, 2011 Lomo have a new lab in London that is perhaps more in tune with customer requirements than some processing outlets LomoLab London in PhotoLabs - Lomography I use Peak Imaging in Sheffield and they do a reasonable job. They are great for quick turnaround, process (C41) and scan to CD, jpg format - I don't get prints made. Their scans are great for web use and I've made A4 prints from them - certainly they're perfectly fine up to 5X7, but I re-scan my 'keepers' at high res on my Epson scanner. Snappy Snaps have been consistently good in my experience, they also do E6 and B&W, and when I have used them for prints I've been happy with those too. If you don't want to post films there are plenty of pro outfits in central London, but their prices will be that much higher.
