Hi guys,

just a quick question re the lens.

I've noticed that on a couple of occasions when I've been using the Elmarit that I lose the focusing image in the rangefinder patch. I don't know if this is down to the aperture I was using (think it was f16 or thereabouts) at the time but I changed the aperture setting refocused the lens on something else and the focusing image came back so I was just wondering if this is, 'normal'?

Otherwise the lens 'appears' to be perfectly fine.

I've never noticed anything similar to the above when using the 50mm Summicron at any aperture, BTW.

I've not had any photos developed with the Elmarit yet.

Thanks

Tony

Uhm... if I understand well, you simply LOSE the split-image in the VF ? This isn't related to f stop by sure (no connection of any kind between f stop ring and RF coupling cam) ; but... it can be a problem that can arise (inadvertitely) when one use lenses with the focusing ring that is a bit "far" from the body (and the Elmarit 90 is such... old 135s Hektor/Elmar the same)... you don't realize, but during the focus action can happen that your hand/finger stays just along the small RF window light patch... you look clear through the VF but the 2nd image simply isn't there: try to verify... I remember it happened to me years ago with one of the old 135s I quoted.

(btw... this is one of the reasons to appreciate focus-by-knob lenses... simply can't happen)

Thanks Luigi, that makes sense:cool:

I'm left handed so your probably correct about the position of my hand in relation to the RF window light patch.

"you look clear through the VF but the 2nd image simply isn't there"

That's exactly what happens.

With the Summicron I always use the infinity lever so no problems with a loose hand or finger.

Tony

Hi Tony,

have you by the case get any M3 instructions for use manual ?

if not, try get some one you will learn lot of things.

best wishes

Thanks JC,

I think I've got a PDF somewhere but I might buy an instruction manual they're not that expensive.

Liecashop sell them for about £10 or so second hand.

BTW, I've just bought HCB's 'Scrapbook' on the recommendation of someone in a thread in the film forum, it cost me £21 from Amazon SH and it is worth every single penny. Some of the photos are simply beautiful.

Hi Guys,

I'm on holiday in Cornwall at the moment and have had some photos developed whilst I'm here in a local one hour photo lab and some of my photos taken with the Elmarit are nothing short of stunning.

Still don't have a hood but that doesn't seem to matter::D

I'll stick some of the photos on the photo forum when I get back.

Regards,

Tony

Hello Tony,

Think of lens hoods, 12575 for your lens, as primarily there to mechanically protect lenses from unexpected & upredictable impact. Flare suppression second.

Better a damaged lens hood than damage to a lens &/or lens element.

Besides: You get significant flare suppression in the very situations where lenses like 1st generation 90mm Elmarits especially need it in. You create a better picture than the 1 you are looking @ today.

Best Regards,

Michael

Luigi,

I have this tele-elmarit 90mm. f2.8.

What adapter is used for use on the Visoflex?

Thanks.

There are no adapters for 90mm Tele-Elmarit lenses. They are just bayonetted into the front of the Viso, meaning that they can be used only for pretty extreme close-up work.

With the original (1958) Elmarit you unscrew the optical cell from the focusing unit, and screw it directly into the front of the OTZFO/16464 Universal Focusing Mount, which in turn is bayonetted into the Viso. In this configuration, the lens focuses from infinity down to 0.5m, closer with a OTRPO/16471 extension tube. Down to 39cm and a 4x6cm field, in fact.
