roydonian Posted June 2, 2011 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone found a good storage system for SD cards? When I’m out shooting I carry a small Gepe box that holds three cards. Three Gepe Card Safes carry enough for holiday use, but the latter are bulky and heavy for their limited capacity, being sized for CF cards. Ideally, I’d like to find some sort of portable box or card wallet that would hold a dozen SD cards while taking up less space in my hand luggage. When ‘back at base’, SD cards tend to get lost around my office. Their life expectancy seems as short as that of officers on the Western Front in 1914-18. So I’d also like to find some sort of desktop storage box that would hold those not in immediate use, plus all the smaller-capacity ones I’ve acquired over the last decade. No longer in regular use, the latter are handy to have around when I just want to take a few pics or try out a new lens. With the M8, a 2Gb card is usually enough for a day's shooting, but when I go the M9 route it will be time to move to 4Gb cards, and I'll need some way of storing the surviving 2Gb cards. Any suggestions? Best regards

topoxforddoc Posted June 2, 2011 Share #2 Posted June 2, 2011 Roy, I only ever carry my kit (2 DMRs) in a Billingham (Packington). I just put unused SD cards in one of the outer zipped pockets and transfer them to the other one when I've filled the up. Best wishes,
stuny Posted June 2, 2011 Share #3 Posted June 2, 2011 I got a small metal case, about the size of a man's wallet to fit in a hip pocket. It has 8 hollowed out spaces specifically for the cards. Virginia Bill Posted June 3, 2011 Share #4 Posted June 3, 2011 Think Tank makes two wallets for memory cards. I got one as a freebie for visiting (by accident) a Think Tank event at a local camera store. It's quite nice, and I'll use it forever more. wda Posted June 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted June 3, 2011 Virginia Bill, welcome to the Forum! Your suggested storage looks good but it might be big for SD cards. Aren't CF cards bigger? Perhaps they make one suitable for SD.
mjh Posted June 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2011 I stuff all my cards into one of those tiny zippered thingies made from neoprene that some vendors sell with their SD cards. When I’m changing cards I just put the other card in the coin pocket of my five pocket jeans (and no, I’ve never lost a card that way).

pico Posted June 11, 2011 Share #12 Posted June 11, 2011 There are small, waterproof zip-lock food bags. Very small. Keep a couple in your pocket for the cards. How simple can it be?

dickgrafixstop Posted June 13, 2011 Share #15 Posted June 13, 2011 I stumbled across a good solution when I purchased a Lowepro Stealth 100 bag to house a small kit. Included was a nylon case to hold 12 cards. It holds compact flash cards "raw" and the sd cards in the small plastic protectors they usually come in. I wanted another one, found out they were not a separate product so I contacted Lowepro's excellent customer service. They sold me one for about $20. I now have four. Welcome, dear visitor!
