Mark2 Posted June 2, 2011 Share #21 Posted June 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) not clear which lux you are after U can do a few things rather than being a cry baby. 1. Buy a second hand summilux. 2. Put your name in the queue and wait for your turn. 3, Quit using Leica and buy Canon, they have plenty of lens available without having to wait,

delander † Posted June 2, 2011 Share #22 Posted June 2, 2011 3, Quit using Leica and buy Canon, they have plenty of lens available without having to wait, They do but the more esoteric L lenses are very much in short supply and in some cases not currently obtainable, and now more expensive than previously. razerx Posted June 3, 2011 Share #23 Posted June 3, 2011 My new version 35/1.4 asph is paid for in full but has been back ordered for so many months I have lost track. It will show up one day. I am very glad Leica is doing so well. My 50/1.4 asph was from Popflash and it is black paint!

wilfredo Posted June 4, 2011 Share #25 Posted June 4, 2011 I think I waited 2 months for mine, can't remember but it was worth the wait. I have a beautiful silver version and it's giving me plenty of satisfaction. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/people/184045-b-w-study-wrinkles.html
mgreernz Posted June 4, 2011 Share #26 Posted June 4, 2011 Place your order, wash your undies, take a deep breath, smell the coffee and enjoy the anticipation. Here in NZ I waited a full 13 months for mine to arrive in April. It sure makes you appreciate it when it finally arrives.
JPH1962 Posted June 4, 2011 Share #27 Posted June 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm a very happy man, I'm not gloating but sharing this to encourage you. I bought one off-the-shelf from a main London dealer three weeks ago. I was not on their waiting list. I got lucky : I was just chatting to them about how hard it was to find a new Summilux 50 and they said "Hang on, you might be in luck". They'd just received a shipment that was one more than their waiting list so there it was, just sitting there for the first person to ask for it, and it happened to be me. Moral: keep on looking, you may get lucky too. Same here, I walked in my favorite dealers shop once and walked out with a brand new 35 lux FLE ... it was there... and some weeks ago I returned and had to see that he had anotherone plus 2 x 50 Lux asph... again I walked out with one of them.... currently he has (week ago) a silver 50 asph So, just look out, grab your phone and search... rgds JPH

marknorton Posted June 4, 2011 Share #29 Posted June 4, 2011 For rare Leica items, it pays to cultivate a relationship with a dealer you trust. When I bought mine, paying for the lens up front automatically bumped me to the front of the queue ahead of those who may well have put their name on a dozen dealer lists without showing any commitment to buy from any of them. Photon42 Posted June 4, 2011 Share #31 Posted June 4, 2011 Was that at Swiss prices;) This would explain availability. It was always worth extra to live in a country where imported goods have the highest price tag world wide, despite the fact that the Swiss VAT is less than in California ... SteveYork Posted June 4, 2011 Share #32 Posted June 4, 2011 50/1.4 ASPH has been a tough get from intro 7, 8 years ago Rumors the first batch used some rare old glass Leitz had hidden away (unfounded) made it cult from the first Then people began seeing images and WOW It's one of those items you have to be lucky and good to lay hands on No, mine's not for sale Never hear that one before. That's like the one that says a series of Martin guitars were made from old church pews.
SteveYork Posted June 4, 2011 Share #33 Posted June 4, 2011 Go on a waiting list or pick up the telephone and start calling around. But don't pay these inflated prices you see on the auction site. Unless I'm trying to sell mine from the 2nd or 3rd batch. In that case, bid heavily.
segedi Posted June 5, 2011 Share #34 Posted June 5, 2011 The wait depends largely on location I've found. Where are you located?
octo Posted June 5, 2011 Share #35 Posted June 5, 2011 The wait depends largely on location I've found. Where are you located? Walked into my local (Cannes, France) dealer to ask about the sale of my 'Cron 50 yesterday morning and saw a Slx 1.4/50 FLE on the shelf, no price tag. Asked about it, he told me that he'd got it an hour before and hadn't had the time to print the price tag (probably not enough paper). Since he had sold my 'Cron, I asked him to make me an offer I couldn't refuse for the Slx, which he did with alacrity and I walked out with it. Hefty little thing, looks like a jewell; don't think I am worth it but it's twice now, what with the Slx 35, that such serendipity happens to me: a sure sign to give in to fate! Best of luck to you all!

It's all about being in the right place at the right time, or just waiting for the order to come in. In October last year I rang my Leica dealer to put me on the waiting list for a new 50 Summilux. I said that from what I had read I assumed he would be calling me some time in the middle of the next year if I was lucky. He said that not one hour before one had arrived for another customer who had ordered it months before with an MP. As the delivery date for the MP was still unknown therefore the customer declined the lens. I paid for it by credit card over the phone then and there. However I certainly had to wait my turn (ie 5 months) for my new 75 Summicron. Mark
menos I M6 Posted June 21, 2011 Share #37 Posted June 21, 2011 If you are still looking after a 50 Lux ASPH, you should be very quick to check with the seller: http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/market/listing/4471/50mm_Summilux_ASPH_latest.html I suppose, this will be gone within minutes, as the price is obscene (obscenely low that is ;-) ). Don't know the seller, item looks very nice. I was actually a bit shocked, to see such lens at this price these days, while casually browsing the classifieds. Maybe UK is the place to buy your Leica lens. I waited for my Lux 50mm 3 weeks (40% deposit helps). Price new is not much higher than that S/H. I highly recommand Jacobs Digital Photography & Video on the strength of their fast service, also few years back they found me out of stock item within the week. If you live away from any store you can contact them by phone but I found best thing is to deal with them over the counter. Actually I made 100 miles car journey to collect the lens. ayewing Posted June 22, 2011 Share #39 Posted June 22, 2011 As I recently returned to the Leica fold I was perhaps naive in my belief that it was easy to buy a new Summilux 50mm to use with my new M9. I did a search of UK Leica dealers on the internet and ordered from Foordes, a retailer situated in the north of Scotland with a good reputation offering a favourable price. I placed an order in April, paying for the lens up front. I received an email next day saying that they were out of stock but expecting a delivery within a week. My lens arrived 13 days after placing the order. In the light of what I now know I reckon I was lucky.
