What for ?

Just for fun of searching ? Platinum ...diamond logo...maybe...

To have a M no body else can ? Black M1

Black M4 are so common... I have some.

Or for taking photographs ? All other M then.

I'd guess that high on many collectors' list would be an original MP in black paint with matching Leicavit. At least if you judge by the auction prices.

Many users will say M2, personally i rate my newly CLAd and recovered 1957 M3 very high.

I think people have personal holy grails; it's easy enough to work out what's rare and hence "covetable" but that is not necessarily the same thing. I'm totally happy with my M2, M7 and MP, for instance.

It's all relative ;)

Mainly depending from what is meant by Holy Grail. Rare models, famous photographers' stuff and not always on rationale basis, such as is the case with M3s whose ID numbers are greater than 1,000,000 that become even more valuable if greater than 1,100,000.

Just for the sake of drooling here are some gems exposed at my favorite pusher... er seller:

Newoldcamera - Scheda prodotto

Newoldcamera - Scheda prodotto

Newoldcamera - Scheda prodotto

Newoldcamera - Scheda prodotto

Newoldcamera - Scheda prodotto

Cheers,

Bruno
