chris_livsey Posted May 25, 2011 Share #141 Posted May 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I like the 1/4000th shutter speed of the M9. It's made at least one picture possible that couldn't have been done otherwise. Perhaps you should have bought an M8 with 1/8000th

underground Posted May 28, 2011 Share #142 Posted May 28, 2011 Perhaps you should have bought an M8 with 1/8000th I really like that about the M8. I pair it up with my M7 at times For that reason. 1/4000 isn't bad for an M either I think.

colin_d Posted May 30, 2011 Share #145 Posted May 30, 2011 Where on earth do you get slide film processed for $10? I'm in Melbourne, and any slide film I get processed is sent off to Vanbar. Total cost for a roll of slide film to buy, dev, scan and print is about $50-60. Or about $5 for a roll of XTRA 400, then another $20 to for dev/scan/print. Dropped off a roll of Ektachrome E200, for processing only, at 11.30am, collect at 4.00pm from Vanbar, cost $10Aus. Also got a quote on medium format (120), processing only, as I am about to finish my first rolls: B&W $13.20Aus Colour E6 & C41 $8.00Aus cheers
Stealth3kpl Posted May 30, 2011 Share #146 Posted May 30, 2011 Ain't no such speed as 1/4000th or faster on an M8. What do your really mean to say? . The earliest M8's had 1/8000th but the shutters couldn't handle it and blew up, in one case deafening a small child and shattering the stained glass windows in St Paul's Cathedral. Leica were forced to drop the shutter speed to an ear bleeding 1/4000th. Fact. Pete

pico Posted May 31, 2011 Share #148 Posted May 31, 2011 Gentlemen, I stand corrected! 1/8000th of a second obviously did exist for the first M8. Wow, is my face red!

jerryharwood Posted June 1, 2011 Share #150 Posted June 1, 2011 You have really answered your own questions ! I have been down this route, and returned wholly to film, except for model making. I use Leica and Hasselblad, and scan the results for output, both for exhibition/ sale. I use an old Epson 4490 scanner, and Vuescan- an almost unbeatable combination. Ok an M9 is nice, and could be satisfactory, but you will always have that nagging doubt that others have expressed here; will it be reliable, or will I get a lemon? At £5000 a pop, I see there is no argument- film everytime.
wattsy Posted June 1, 2011 Share #151 Posted June 1, 2011 Ok an M9 is nice, and could be satisfactory, but you will always have that nagging doubt that others have expressed here; will it be reliable, or will I get a lemon? There are plenty of good reasons (creative, economic and ergonomic) not to get an M9 but with a two year guarantee (and consumer laws providing a certain amount of protection beyond that) I don't think reliability should dissuade anyone but the most ludicrously risk averse.
