And it is a gorgeous lens: very sharp wide open with fine micro contrast and low contrast overall. 21/2.8 Biogon is very sharp but also contrasty. Leica fans i used to know never stopped praising the speedness of their (our) tiny lenses. Now we've got fast Godzillas and slow medium sized lenses and some of the best LUF members here don't see obvious difference between the outcome of their expensive stuff and that of small sensor cameras. The most probable reason for a production withdrawal, is a glass type is no longer available, e.g. too toxic to process, etc. There might be a type II later. The CV 35mm f1.2 has just gone to type II for glass availability, Cosina were quite open about the reason. The 21mm are always low volume, specialist use, expect slow sale... Gerry Me too... furthermore... my Super Angulon f3,4 was(is) so good that I wouldn't even had bought my 21 asph (secondhand), wouldn't have been the issue of M8 metering with the SA (completely unreliable, as declared by Leica). I recall many on the Forum mentioning never sell your glass, you will probably regret it. Glad I listened With curiosity I wait to see where Leica will end up positioning itself in respect to this focal length, and if/how/when it will translate to other focal lengths. I wish I had bought a 3.4 back in the 60s when I first got the M3s, but it was too much for my budget and naively I didn't think I needed such a wide angle as that If I had I would probably still be happy enough with it, but when I came to get a 21 a few years ago it seemed worth the extra to get the asph. lens, the 3.4 s a bit expensive for what it is, too sought after by collectors I think. It takes a lot of care to get accurate exposure readings TTL with such a wide lens, its difficult to exclude overbright areas such as the sky, sunny 16 comes to the rescue! I also have a 21/4 Voigtlander, mainly to use on the III, but it also comes out with the Ms if space is limited. Its amazingly good for roughly 1/8 of the price of the secondhand 21/2.8 asph., and about a quarter of the price of a 21/3.4 Gerry Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

While I enjoyed it on my M3, M6 and M8, it comes into its own on the full-frame M9. I do occasionally use it at full aperture indoors, but have never felt the need for the faster version. If the /2.8 was selling they will probably introduce a near replacement, they wont want ZM or CV to eat their lunch. I often use it for architectural interiors and exteriors, and it does have some visible distortion.
