Oh good.  That's such a small range that we should get this really quickly.

I suspect its on one of the high plateaus, near Denver, if on the eastern side of the peaks.

But you're right, it is not very far from Denver, indeed located in the state of Colorado...

Hint: the major peaks in this specific area were named after famous universities... the central peak in the picture is one of them...

Thank you, Stuart, this is exactly right.

I was coming down Rt. 285/24 from Trout Creek Pass going south/west - suddenly, during the descent, the landscape opened up enormously, and this gigantic rock stood there, dominating over the wide floodplain of the Arkansas River... Breathtaking. The photo does not do it justice. This is Mt. Princeton with almost 14,200 ft.
