The picture was taken from the top of a hotel on the US side, the big building on the other side is the Sheraton in Canada, just slightly right of the picture, where you see the strong lights is the Rainbow Bridge to Canada.

The current lights at the falls, installed in 2016, are high powered LEDs.  In the 1970s my father designed the prior lighting, which replaced the original carbon arc lamps on the Queen Victoria Building with 23 10,000 watt xenon lamps, plus another up river backlighting the plume, and one in the gorge shooting up at the plume.  There was also a Klieg spotlight.  Each of the xenon lamps was brighter than all 16 of the old carbon arc lamps combined.
