Is it Cochem?

Hello Mnutzer,

Or, perhaps in or near the Teutoburg Forest?

Best Regards,

Michael

No, the searched town lies not near the Mosella und the Teutoburg Forest is more to the North.

stefans4 is come with his three proposals very close to the target, but because the three places are quite far from each other one should specify in more detail for the solution to the riddle.

Hello Mnutzer,

Near or on the Lahn?

Best Regards,

Michael

Bremen?

The river of the city we're looking for, is also one of the tributaries of the Rhine but is located in contrast to the left side flowing Moselle on the right side of the Rhine like the Lahn, but it is located more to the South.

Please read Stefans4's list of his suggestions again.:)

From my lack of experience of the area it could be a tributary into the Sea of Tranquility.:o

There was a time not too long ago, when this areal - although no place of tranquility - looked like craters on the moon:

So, lots of new information...

In my little list (post #3036) I've identified 3 "candidates" for the city we are looking for:

Regensburg

Trier

Würzburg.

All three are seats of Catholic bishops (Cochem and Bremen, for instance, are not; I've taken the list of seats from List of Roman Catholic dioceses in Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, so that was easy). All three seem to have the "right" apparent city size and the "right" apparent size of the river flowing through the city.

In the meantime, mnutzer has stated that the city we are looking for is not located on the Mosel river. This excludes Trier, and only Regensburg and Würzburg remain as possibilities.

Now, the stark images of the city's reduced state in 1945 (see previous post) might provide a further clue. Both Regensburg and Würzburg are listed as UNESCO world heritage sites: List of World Heritage Sites in Germany - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. But could it perhaps mean anything that in Würzburg, only a single building seems to be listed (albeit a large and important one), while in Regensburg, most of the Old Town is included?

I'm not sure at all and cannot decide. But perhaps it is easy now for one of the readers...?

Well Gentlemen, yesterday you have been excused due to this "T-Day" because we have been all staring at this new small silver tobacco box from Wetzlar.:)

As perhaps our eyes can no longer see so well at night, I have tried to find another picture of the searched city that I photographed from above on a quite bright day.

However, I tried very hard to find a picture that does not show too many of the distinctive architectural treasures.

According to the outstanding achievements of Stefans4 only Regensburg and Würzburg are the last two possibilities for your selection.

If you write down some digits to the edges of your new Leica T with a thick marker pen, you could even roll the dice for the result.;)

Then it must be Würzburg - which is a bit embarrassing as I grew up not too far away and have been there numerous times, so I should have known... :o Regards from Shanghai, Michael

Michael, thanks for your feedback, but would our riddle not have been too easy, if the usual postcard view taken from the famous Marienberg Fortress would have shown?;)

Now you take over the baton of our nice geographical quiz rally and I am sure you will succeed from Shanghai best, maybe set a puzzle picture of Asia from far above.

Congratulations!

Ok, as the last one has been quite a challenge for all of us (including native Franconians), something easier now (at least I think so)... I'm also fairly sure this location has been covered earlier in the thread, hope this is fine.

Hi Michael,

while it seems to be a bit foggy, I'm happy to say that in this case it is humidity. This city is rarely plagued by smog as we sometimes have it here in Shanghai...

And no, it is not Korea, haven't been there yet but it is quite on top of my list.

@ Stuny - no, not Beijing... Further south. Quite a bit... :)

Cheers

Michael
