VeeGeelde Posted April 23, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 23, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Can someone please help me with my IIIF camera? I cannot find out whether this is a true IIIF camera or a conversion. It has a selftimer, and a Black dial. Shutterspeeds are B,25,50,75,100,200,500,100 and at the front1,2,5,25,15,10.. The engraving is Leica DBP ErnstLeitz GMBH Wetzlar Germany, SN 673034. This seems to be a leica IF according to what I found on the Internet. I hope someone can help. Many thanks! Advertisement Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Hi VeeGeelde, Take a look here Leica IIIF with strange SN 673034. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
J_Thompson Posted April 23, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 23, 2011 According to the data I have, Hans, you have a IIIf produced in 1953. I'm not a collector, but it seems normal to me.
VeeGeelde Posted April 23, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted April 23, 2011 Thanks John. Which database did you use?
jc_braconi Posted April 23, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 23, 2011 Yes it is a If upgraded to IIIf 1953/54 you can use the sticky thread in top of this forum
250swb Posted April 23, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 23, 2011 I would think its stretching credibility to say a If can be updated to IIIf configuration considering a If has no rangefinder mechanism. If it has no rangefinder its a If upgraded with slow shutter speeds and a self timer. Its not a IIIf if it doesn't have a rangefinder. Steve
diser Posted April 23, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 23, 2011 considering a If has no rangefinder mechanism. I (A) cameras didn't have rangefinders either ;-)

J_Thompson Posted April 24, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 24, 2011 Thanks John. Which database did you use? The Leica Pocket Pod, compiled by Erwin Puts, available as a PDF download on his website, Tao of Leica. http://www.imx.nl/photo/downloads/files/page70-leicapocket_pod1.pdf

If the OP could confirm if it does have a rangefinder perhaps as its only 33 serial numbers away from the changeover there is an overlap from the IIIf to the If batch? giordano Posted April 24, 2011 Share #10 Posted April 24, 2011 Steve, in those days the upgrades offered by Leica included adding a rangefinder to "I" cameras, slow speeds to "I" and "II", and synchronisation to "c" series. So upgrading a If to IIIf was nothing extraordinary.
luigi bertolotti Posted April 24, 2011 Share #11 Posted April 24, 2011 Conversions of If to IIf/IIIf were available from Leitz, as standard listed "upgrades"... no much time ago, in this section, a member even posted the copy of the page of a Leica pricelist with the above (and others, too... also "c" models could be upgraded). So if I get it right; it was originally an IF camera that was upgraded to a IIIF. Does that mean that they took over the IF serial number onto the new topplate? My camera does have a range/view finder! May thanks to all who tried to help me. Much appreciated! Hans
