simon-s Posted April 20, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 20, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I'm new on this forum and wanted to know how much it could cost to change the top plate of my M6 (because of scratches on it)? In fact, I want to know if it's worth doing it.

andybarton Posted April 20, 2011 Share #2 Posted April 20, 2011 Welcome to the forum! It will cost you about half of what your M6 is worth. I wouldn't bother if I were you - the new one will only get scratched as well.
earleygallery Posted April 20, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 20, 2011 They're not scratches, it's called patina!
bill Posted April 20, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 20, 2011 Quite. If it was a restaurant it would be called "ambience" an outfit, "cachet", a lover, "je ne sais quoi". They are not scratches, they are laughter lines. Relish them, don't obliterate them Regards, Bill
Xmas Posted April 20, 2011 Share #5 Posted April 20, 2011 Hi While I'm with the previous posters, if the scratches are not causing corrosion, of the zinc base metal, and you would know if they were, without asking, I'd leave it as is. Mine is uncomfortable to use as the chrome is badly damaged. One of the independent maintenance people might have access to a spare baseplate and would be able to give you a quote, there is a sticky thread of their contact details. If you are really practical you may be able to find one on ebay and also get a set of tools, but there is a risk of turning your camera into a zip lock plastic bag.
