Unable to code CV 40mm Nokton

Hi there,here is my first post and i hope some one here can help me.Recently i purchased a CV 40mm Nokton.With a bit of searching on RFF,i filed downed the flange to bring up the 35mm framelines.Previously before i did the mod,i coded it as a 50mm Summilux and it was fine.After i filed it down,i coded it as a 35 Summilux pre asph but it did not register in the camera,i have a 35 Summaron coded as a Summarit and it works so i ruled out the possiblity that the 6bit sensor was defective.

 

So my question is how is this happening?did i do something wrong or are filed down 40mmm' unable to be coded?II tried coding many times with different 35mm codes before coming here and still it wouldn't work.

 

Any help here will be greatly appreciated.Sorry for the long first post

Now that's interesting, I've got a Summicron C 40mm, I have not filed down the flange and yet I can't code it as a 35mm. My 50mm series 3 Summicron coded 1st time no problem.

Well if its showing the 50mm framelines,then it has to be coded as a 50mm as far as i know.If i am not mistaken,u can only code it in accordance to which framelines it brings up and it some exceptions,more than 1 lens code can be applied.Feel free to correct me,this is what i seen so far in forums.

The lens flange only brings up the correct frame for the lens, it's a mecanical thing - I don't want to file the flange at the moment. On the 40mm Summicron C the flange will bring up the 50mm framelines (it's the way it was made for the CL camera) As to the coding it seems best to code the 40mm as if it was a 35mm Summicron - that's as close as one can get as far as I know. I think the problem may be that the older lenses have a screw where the 6bit code should go, and the screw is not a help when marking the lines with a 'sharpie' or other fine point pen. I'll have another go at it ASAP and report back

If you want to code a Voigtländer 40 mm lens as a Leica 35 mm lens then file down the flange so it would bring up the 35 mm framelines. If you don't want to file it down then use the code of one of the Leica 50 mm lenses.

 

If the flange is filed down and the code is that of a 35 mm lens and it still doesn't work then I'd guess the position of the patches on the lens' bayonet probably is off by, say, half a millimeter or so. Remove the code patches (assuming they're only applied with a felt pen) and re-apply them more carefully.

Thanks for all the replies.I also thought that i have it off by a millimeter or so too but i been doing it so many times and my other lenses which i coded don't give this problem.Anyway i ordered a coder kit so if it doesn;t work i will be sure to update it here and share.

These guys seem to think it's not worth coding, but it is worth filing to achieve the 35mm framelines...

I saw the link,it kind of addresses the 40mm summicron,a different lens with different characteristics than the CV 40mm Nokton.I am now shooting to see if there are weird color shifts if i do not code it.Thanks

Hey this slightly off topic but regarding the same lens. How can I tell if the 40 mm Nokton I just got is single or multi coated. Makes no mention on or in the box and the seller had no idea. Thanks for your help.!

 

Well there should be a 'SC' written in blue on the front of the lens.In addition,your box should have a roulnd blue sticker labelled as SC.They did not make a different packaging for the SC,merely slapped on a sticker on my box

The 40mm CV f/1.4 has a screw head in the flange right over the coding sensor, so I would say it can't be coded, anyway I couldn't do mine. But to remind people, the code and the framelines need to match each other for the camera to auto detect.

I've marked (with marker) the senzor's marks on the camera and transfered them to match the lens and it seems to me that it is not over the screw. The screw is way to the left . That's why I'm in this dilema, there is nothing that would obstruct the code that i' triyng to imprint.

I've tried all the methods ( marker, sticker with markings, even black sticker on the senzor itself). There is any chance that the senzor itself could malfunction?

So there must be two different flange mounts for the CV 40mm f/1.4

It is possible for (one of) the LEDs to fail, but a coding error is far more likely. Hand-coding IS as bit hit-or-miss.

hello,

I've used this print http://cdn.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/M9_Lens_Coder_V3.jpg to mark-up the position of 6 bit code.

The interesting fact is that (for the sake of test only ) I've manage to mark up the lens with the code of Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH (⬛⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜), but I can't leave it like an 50mm because I can't frame it accordingly. My code should be ⬜⬛⬛⬛⬜⬛

So, if for an 50mm is working, I have no problem with the marker, and with the position of the above template.
