Lars, Luigi—why are you accusing DHL when the offender obviously is Posten Logistik?

I do not accuse DHL in itself... but simply observe that the delivery system, in today's economy, is such that often, and expecially in private people to private people (Erwin to Lars) one that choses a high ranking important player, by definition trustable, cannot be sure that, at the other end, the quality (and, in this case, final cost) of the service is up to the expectations one has when has decided to use, in this case, DHL.

At the end, is one of the many examples of the frequent concept of outsourcing, which diluites the chain of responsability of a certain task, passing in other hands a piece of it: unavoidable, today, for a number of logistic/economic reasons... but often annoying for the people.

BTW... I 'm still waiting my book... :o

I have been told that the book will be delivered on Monday ... sometime between 09:00 and 16:00. So I will be expected to sit meekly at home for one full day, waiting. Now what if I had been unable to do so?

No wonder that Danish mail delivery is a mess. Danish Mail is in cahoots with the Swedish Post Office nowadays, and the business plan is that the common citizenry are just mailboxes for dumping mass advertising in. The idea that citizens should be served is obsolete, and it's high time that we learn about our obsolescence.

And DHL are of course tainted by their consorting with gangsters like these. Money don't smell. They stink.

Monday !!! Well, happens that I'm in Sweden just on Monday... pity is a short business trip, and not in Stockholm... otherwise I could have plotted a maybe not too complex plan to arrange the final joke to you... staying anonimously a bit out of your door, intercepting the courier, declaring myself as Lars... damn ! the LANGUAGE !!!... :D:(

I think he may be a bit enthusiastic about delivery times; but he has paid for better than postal delivery, so maybe they're all on the DHL tarmac ready to be delivered.

I hope. :)

- Ordered mine 23 Jan,

- Acknowledged by Mr Puts 25 Feb,

- Payment received by Mr Puts 27 March,

- Advised ready for shipment 5 May.

I expect mine sometime in June - that's if the courier company here doesn't lose it (it's a long way to NZ from the Netherlands). Our Post Office service is actually one of the better delivery companies here, it has finally worked out that success might be linked to service!

Cheers

John

Ah-yes I see what you mean. Obviously he has had no time to delve into the theory of map projections and confuses it with distortion. Well, outside the geographical world it is a bit esoteric. We are mostly Mercatorial creatures.;)

Several messages have shown me this post is a bit obscure and too elliptical. I'll elaborate.

01AF claims the the part about the Elmarit "contains nonsense".

I think that is not the case. There are different ways to project three dimensions onto two.

We are used to the rectilinear one, as dictated by the Camera Obscura and followed in mapmaking by Mercator (Mercatorial, not mercenary, respondent B;)) which, as a Dutchman, I cannot resist mentioning.

Fisheye lenses are originally made for meteorological use, and don't have a rectilinear projection, but an equiangular one. It would take elaborate gear to measure it, but I think that the lens has virtually no distortion in an equiangular universe. To describe that as "extreme pincushion distortion" is an oversimplification imo, but to call it nonsense is incorrect. The end effect is the same.

I have received my copy today.

I expected a good book, but it is beyond my expectations.

Huge in size, with tons of graphical information (photos, graphs, diagrams...), well edited, very well bound...

I was impressed. This book is a work to be proud of.

Good job Erwin!

I see by the above posts that many folks in Europe have received their copies.

Has anyone in the U.S. received theirs?

I'm still looking forward to receiving mine (in the southeast USA).

Glenn
