I usually don't portrait Homeless people on the street, but when I was walking home yesterday evening I saw this poor guy hiding his head behind the sign and his hands reaching out for help. arminw Posted January 30, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted January 30, 2007 Powerful image indeed. Did you help? A pound in his hands is like a drop of water on a hot stone ... so did I really help???
ddp Posted January 30, 2007 Share #9 Posted January 30, 2007 A pound in his hands is like a drop of water on a hot stone ... so did I really help??? I was merely playing Devil's advocate. Street photographers & documentary shooters capture what is there, but do not get involved for the most part. I have seen some shooters that actually develop a relationship with those on the street, and occasionally aid.
fotografr Posted January 30, 2007 Share #10 Posted January 30, 2007 Potent and poignant. I don't think I'll ever understand how a person comes to this point.
wilfredo Posted January 31, 2007 Share #11 Posted January 31, 2007 Very powerful indeed. Did you consider zooming in on the sign and hands, isolating the rest? I also avoid shots of the homeless but this image is compelling. The homeless person in question remains anonymous, reflecting the reality of the homeless, people most of us would prefer to think don't really exist. wilfredo Posted January 31, 2007 Share #12 Posted January 31, 2007 Brent, There are a lot of people just a few pay checks away from being homeless. It can happen to anyone especially as the gap between the wealthy and the working poor continues to widen. I'll be cooking tomorrow for the homeless at my church, many of our guests can't seem to find their way out of homelessness, even when they find work. We live in a very strange world, it is the way of neo-liberalism and global economies. Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography
wilyum Posted January 31, 2007 Share #13 Posted January 31, 2007 An almost theatrical image. The pose would be difficult to maintain for very long. Homeless people in my area would simply carry a sign saying " Will Work For Food".
imported_peter_m Posted January 31, 2007 Share #14 Posted January 31, 2007 A image that makes you think. Good tones and very well captured. Thank you for posting. Peter

Regards,Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography Wilfredo , I was considering your suggestion as well, but could not find the right crop. So I left it as it id since it is quite strong already.
