Robinyuill Posted April 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted April 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi there. Just been pleased to bits for the past year with my move to Leica again with my M8. Had a M3 in the 80s but was tempted away to Nikon, what a fool to sell all the leica kit. I have just bought a M2 and found a good D&P company here in Edinburgh but would like some recommendations on films to try. My fist film was Fuji Superia 200 and loved the results. Any help thanks. Regards Robin.

Michael Hiles Posted April 4, 2011 Share #3 Posted April 4, 2011 Film has never lost its undoubted charm. I do mainly B&W, and I like Ilford XP2 Super. Smooth and creamy, sharp, quite grain-free.
qvsm Posted April 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted April 5, 2011 Portra 160nc is a common favourite. Ektar is more saturated and doesn't give the same natural skin tones as portra. For E6 I quite liked Kodak E100G, warmer than Fuji Provia 100f. For BW a lot like Tri-x. Enjoy!

Regards Robin. If you like the Fuji colour negative films, you should certainly give Reala a try. It's "only" ISO 100, so not an available light film, but very fine "grain" (in the sense appropriate to colour negative films!) and, in my opinion, accurate and natural colours. rjans Posted April 5, 2011 Share #6 Posted April 5, 2011 For color I mostly use Portra 160 NC and 400 NC. I prefer these over the VC versions. Note that KODAK recently replaced both versions by one new for each sensivity. I have not yet used the new type. A review in the French magazine Reponses Photo was very good for the new Portra 400. Suppose the new 160 will become available soon. For B&W my favorite film is T-Max 400. Best

cheewai_m6 Posted April 6, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 6, 2011 Hi there. Just been pleased to bits for the past year with my move to Leica again with my M8. Regards Robin. If cost is an issue, and where I live it's a major major issue. Then Superia 100 has very very good saturation where 200 seems a bit flat. Superia 100 is my favourite film. Kodak CN400 is fantastic for black and white. Very very fine grain, unbelievably fine grain, to the point where you won't believe it's a 400 speed film. Both films are on the cheap end of the spectrum, and minilabs can process these without any problems because they were so mainstream. Where I live, not Hong Kong, any pro film is about €7/roll and over €15/roll to hand develop. €22 / roll to see 36 photos?? dream on. That's 1 reason I stil with C41 films. They're not any less good than pro films for my use. I scan and process in Lightroom.
