Why the new forum?

I see from the reactions that payment (even flat rate) does not get great acceptance. But think about the benefits - it must not be huge, say $20 a year and would at least put a certain minimal barrier of just getting on the forum for and posting whatever one wants to express. It would at least need someone to go through a more detailed registration and paying some mony, so I would hope only more serious users (as some) would participate.

it's too complicated. Someone must collect the money, profit/loss statements, etc..

On the other hand it's a legal question. More and more the handling and supervising of an open forum has some riscs because the responsibility must be covered.

It's a logically decision to apart the company Leica and the owner of this forum.

The forum software which is in use here has much more options as we can see at the moment. The same software works at the Nikon forum of Germany, you ca see Member pics sorted by genre, you can qote pic, you may express your "thank" for posts etc.

Let's wait and see what the near future will bring here.

Regards

Bernd

The new forum is manifestly more interactive than the old forum.

Additionally, the software being used on the new forum allows for many more intersting possibilites.

Have a look here: http://www.northamericanmotoring.com/

North American Motoring uses the same software as the new forum and one can see how they have been able to leverage it.

What next? A limitation on sexy, female single-members under 25 with blond hair and an academic degree?

I would moderate this, if we have minimum twelve forum-meetings per year :D :D :D

Would volunteer too

What the heck...

Who is talking about paying for forum membership? Did anyone at Leica or I mention that in any way?

There will never be fees for normal membership in the Leica Forum. Period.

Andreas

It was just an idea Andreas, not more! It is obviously clear, that you as an admin can determin how this shall work.

...It would at least need someone to go through a more detailed registration...

This has been discussed at length on the previous forum.

Not everybody is willing to disclose their real name on the world's face for whatever personal or professional reasons.

Principle of confidentiality set forth in European Law prescribes "minimising the processing of personal data and (...) using anonymous or pseudonymous data where possible."

I do not care if this was discussed or not. I only care for the quality here in the forum and my feeling is that since the intro of the new forum the quality and the stile really decreased. An option could be (I said COULD) to have to pay a sign on fee, as this can be seen from several other fora, like the Nikonians. If someone is really interested he (she) would not mind to pay this fee, on the other hand you would not everybody have just posting for free without caring for whatever they say or argue.

Anyway this has been discussed (several times) - so as we learnt it shall not be discussed further and there shall not be any possible improvements or changes in the future. Good luck.

There was not a single word on fees in my post, Peter, but i don't mind to discuss on this if you like.

Do you know any photo, car, hi-fi or whatever high-end brand asking for fees as you suggest?

Just curious.

Peter, i hope this was only unhappely worded by you ("there shall not be any possible improvements or changes in the future."). But i can´t help myself, i get the feeling you try to copy some stress you have with the german forum into the international forum.

I hope I´m wrong.

Best, Ronald

Wow, do so many posts really offend you?

I often think twice before posting as I wonder to the reaction my text or picture will get but I generally do it in the hope to receive feedback. Funny though that so few of the 'old guard' can often find the time to bother to provide it.

Ronald,

I do not find to have any stress in the german forum, nor do I want to copy any stress. The question was "why the new forum" and many people wrote down their thoughts about this. And one suggestion was to maybe think about a registration fee, but many members including the admin are against it. So it will not happen. Period.

Anyway I think it should have been at least considered, especially if one always hears the arguments about funding etc., so I think that not even considering this just shows one more time that change is not what most people want in here - right?

I am participating in this forum for fun and if I would have stress I would definitely stop, this is by no means the intention of this forum for me. I dont know about others.

Best

Peter
