Hi Andreas, or whoever is entitled to do it,

Could you create a category "Street photography" in the Photo Forum, please?

Thank you!

P.S.: I've got no idea how I could create a poll but the question would be worth asking, wouldn't it? :)

Yes! Leica M is after all the camera that has been the leading camera in streetphotography and (maybe) still is.

I agree with this post. I find "people" too broad. Perhaps, there could be two: portrait and street photography.

Where would street portraits go?

Street photography goes in the "People" section.

Street photography isn't just about people shots. There's a street photographer who takes photos of rubbish, discarded or lost items etc.

Street photography can go into pretty much any section at present, because IMHO 'street' isn't something that you can easily define and pigeon-hole. I think posting in the most appropriate forum from the current selection is perfectly fine. If in doubt choose 'other' !

Street photography isn't just about people shots. !

Absolutely.

Looking at the current sections 'Street Photography' is an omission. Whilst Sport & Nature night have deserved separate sections when the R system was thrusting, with today's usage of Leica products, a section for Street is far more appropriate, IMO.

I predict that a Street section would attract more threads than any other and suggest therefore it deserves consideration. :p

I agree with you Rolo.

Street is what it is to each photographer. There a lot of people shooting M for street and it would be great to see what photographers worldwide are interpreting as the genre called street. There are more who don't own M who see it as only a street camera...

Guest Holy Moly
I would appreciate a sidewalk photography forum. And a People with sideburns subforum. I don't know... It would be funky.

A street-sub-forum:

'Hipshots only, max. hight 50cm from ground', Black&White, grainy and only Tri-X - ok - digital Leicas with Silver Efex Pro, please.......:D

.. as long as it is not a simple record of something with no real particular interest!

Whilst not violently opposed to the idea, I can see scope for disagreement.

Problem is, we are all pretty clear on what goes in "People" and a "Landscape" speaks for itself.

"Street Photography", however, has no fixed meaning, as has been proven here in debates in the past. Does the shot have to include people or not? Close-ups of street furniture? Graffiti? Is it any public space, or only "urban" (built) environments? What about architecture - we already have a forum for that. Or shots taken in foreign places - shouldn't they go in "travel"? We can't even agree whether that thing under our feet is a pavement or a "sidewalk" so how are we going to agree on this?

Just some thoughts... ;)

Regards,

Bill

Can't we just call it "The kind of stuff HCB shot" forum? Or "The kind of stuff Ansel Adams didn't shoot" forum?

Personally I wouldn't have a problem with a Street forum. I think most of us know what we mean by 'Street' - even if we don't all mean the same thing. Maybe "Street and candid" to allow for informal unposed people shots that weren't taken in a street.

Street can go in the current categories

Street shots of homeless or workers or shoppers: People

Street shots of buildings or deserted lots or abandoned towns: Architecture

Street shots of skateboarders or parades or events: Sports & (as some may recall what its name actually is, and rightly so in my opinion) Leisure Time

What we need most, though, is a forum section for competently made photographs that look like someone who might have a clue of how to use a Leica took them

:p
