Advertisement Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Hi andybarton, Take a look here X1 Firmware v2 Upgrade [Merged thread]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jsrockit Posted March 28, 2011 Share #502 Â Posted March 28, 2011 Auto focus speed improved slightly - now on par with the Ricoh GXR-A12, but slower than the Panasonic GF-1. Â If this is accurate, I'll be very satisfied.

JeTexas Posted March 28, 2011 Share #504 Â Posted March 28, 2011 Fast manual focus mode -- that makes me happy. Having to roll that little thumbwheel 18-20 times to get from one end of the spectrum to the other was ridiculous.
Lost. Posted March 28, 2011 Author Share #505 Â Posted March 28, 2011 HMMMM, I thought there was a huge V2 thread already, and many others not merged?..... Â It's a disservice to ignore the painful wait and various comments, plus, mine was the first user experience with v2 posted on here. But just like that, THIS is the all knowing be all place to discuss it.... still based solely on hearsay since the person writing about the improvement isn't writing it in here AND the update is not released yet, still. Then we have the regurgitated ( and possible intellectual right violations since there's only one place Davids info came from with the unreleased update)... blog links.. Â Â I call BS. Allnm Posted March 28, 2011 Share #510  Posted March 28, 2011 New Leica X1 v2.0 is now official. Available starting tomorrow, Tuesday March 29. I have full details on my blog at David Farkas Photography Blog. David  I posted the release date of V2 on the 25th. I got a phone call from Leica to tell me on 24th but was so exited I forgot most of the improvements. Nice to see you have a list of them.  Anyway, we will all be busy downloading tomorrow. I have a nice fresh SD card ready and waiting..  Allan

OK, calm down.  I have merged your thread from way back when, presumably, you were shown a beta version, and other threads, into this one.  The firmware will be released to everyone tomorrow. I see no reason to call this "BS". David Farkas is one of Leica's Premier Dealers in the US and if he says that the firmware is coming on the 29th, it's coming. This confirms what was released by Leica Russia over the weekend too.  Merging too many threads means that the thread becomes disjointed and responses can be divorced from the previous post to which it is responding.  But, hat-tip to you, you were the first person to see a version of v2 firmware on this forum.
sblitz Posted March 28, 2011 Share #512 Â Posted March 28, 2011 can't wait to read all the complaints about flaws in the download procedure and/or disappointment in the upgrade followed by the retest of the upgraded x1 vs x100. Â somewhere i wrote before that if Leica wants to serve the market that buys the x1 it will need an x2 in time for the holidays -- lest it risk losing this market niche over time. software upgrades, good as they are, will ultimately not supplant the need for a new camera. personally, i am in the erwin puts camp regarding new camera versions -- and the second place photo of the year award went to a photographer that used an iphone to take pictures following troops in Afghanistan. based on what i have read here, mine appears to be a minority view. that i can afford, leica can't. sblitz Posted March 28, 2011 Share #514 Â Posted March 28, 2011 not a hater, not in the least. but an objective read of the x1 posts tells me that x1 owners are essentially people like everyone else and many will not be satisfied and the resulting threads will make for a good read. my main point is to leica and not the people posting -- if they want to be in the game of serving the marketplace that buys an x1 or an x100 or whatever is coming next, they need to be putting out a new camera sooner rather than later and not believe that a software upgrade alone will keep their products relevant in this market niche. Â Yeah because so many people receive Leicas as holiday presents... Leica is their own niche. They are not competing with Fuji, Olympus, etc.

Lost. Posted March 28, 2011 Author Share #519  Posted March 28, 2011 Fair enough, I wasn't disputing whoever Davids claims are.... I can see that everyone around here has him on a pedestal so it must be gospel. I'm just saying that it's a disservice to moderate new threads or past discussions into a new thread when the long story about the painful wait is half the story. Especially for people looking to buy a Leica camera. I think Leica's handling of this whole thing would/should turn off potential buyers, who should know what kind of a very poor customer service Leica has shown the world. Who cares that it was me to be the first on this little forum, I have much cooler things I do in my life everyday than post on a camera forum.... It's no longer the old days where things should move in months or years for "updates". This too long of wait, along with the news that it will take up to 6 weeks to get my camera fixed from Leica just shows how poor their service is. I'm not patient enough for a company that's this slow, and basically tells it's customer, screw you.  If I didn't know first hand what kind of improvement I saw 6 MONTHS ago in a beta, I wouldn't be so frustrated. The fact that they didn't release improvements as they came sucks.  Something.   I look forward to the update like the rest, and will enjoy my little X1 for the great little tool it is, but no longer have any desire to save money for another Leica regardless of the IQ, especially after I wait for 6 weeks for my camera to be fixed with issues from the factory.   Carry on.     OK, calm down. I have merged your thread from way back when, presumably, you were shown a beta version, and other threads, into this one.  The firmware will be released to everyone tomorrow.
