dpitt Posted March 26, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 26, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I just acquired a Leica Summilux 35 mm sn 2290xxx made in Canada. Would love to use it on my M8 but unfortunately the 39mm UV/IR cut filter is too small. So for the time being it will be used in B&W only because I hate the colors without IR filter. Any idea what filter size I have to order? Thanks,

rickp13 Posted March 26, 2011 Share #2 Posted March 26, 2011 if we're talking about the same summilux 35mm pre-asph lens, my two (sn 23xxxx) both used the 12504 lens hood. it unscrews into two parts, and series VII filters fit between. good luck rick Welcome, dear visitor! archi4 Posted March 26, 2011 Share #3 Posted March 26, 2011 If I still remember, the glass of a 49mm filter will fit, or even a 49mm filter in the mount will fit if you insert it with the threads away from the lens and don't tighten the two halves of the hood completely but enough to hold the filter in place. Try it with a no-name filter before buying a 49mm UV/IR filter. B+W will still supply a series VII filter as far as I know.
luigi bertolotti Posted March 26, 2011 Share #4 Posted March 26, 2011 Yes, E 49 is a working alternative, of course provided that you have the 12504, it fits fine mounting it "reversed" as archi4 said ; I have an E49 for my Elmarit 28... seldom go out with 28 + 35 1,4 so... dpitt Posted March 26, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted March 26, 2011 Luigi, As always you have the answer! I still have a lot to learn about Leica. Thanks,
@bumac Posted March 26, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 26, 2011 You will find very fine serie VII filters from B+W. I use them, and they are as good as Leica and half the price.
el fotografo Posted March 27, 2011 Share #7 Posted March 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a B+W E49 486 filter reversed in the hood, similar to Luigi. FYI- some of the Canadian 35mm summilux pre-asph lenses do not focus to infinity on the M8. Mine does not. You can do a search for pre-summilux on M8 for more information. cbretteville Posted March 30, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 30, 2011 +1 on the B+W 486 filter reversed. Mine did not get all the way to infinity on my M8 and went to Solms for a fix+cla. Now it works fine. Carl
