ryee3 Posted March 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just purchased a used 1:4/280mm apo-Telyt-R lens on ebay. When I compared the images taken with my recent purchase with the vario-elmar 105-280mm at 280mm setting, the images on the fixed prime lens is significantly more blurred than the zoom. The camera body was on a tripod. The prime lens appear to be without haze and no gross defects are noted. Is there anything I need to check before I send it out to Leica for repair. Do I send it to New Jersey or Solms? The seller from ebay has yet to respond but there is no question something isn't correct. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Does anyone know if it's better since I am in the US to deal with Leica NJ or send it to Solms directly as Jaapv is suggesting (ie it can only be repaired in Solms.) ho_co Posted March 24, 2011 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2011 You can send to Solms if you want. But since you're in the US, you're basically Allendale's 'responsibility.' I send all repairs to New Jersey and let them decide whether to do the work or not; they know their competences. The advantage of going through New Jersey is that they handle all the international paperwork--customs, shipping, insurance. The disadvantage is that it will take a bit more time because of the added handling. Since the lens will be out of your hands for a month or two anyway, I've always figured that the extra time is outweighed by the convenience. Very sorry to hear of the problem, by the way. I have asked them to add ROM to the lens since it's being repaired. I'll let you know when I get it back.
