bernie.lcf Posted March 11, 2011 Share #1 Posted March 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an Elmar 135/4 for Visoflex that came with the tube and the focus thingy, but did not include the caps. Could anyone tell me the reference number for the chrome metal (front) cap that used to come with the Elmar 135/4. The lens has a 39mm thread (at the front) Perhaps there is a site that lists all the appropriate caps for the various Leica lenses out there. Very often, if you buy second hand bargains, the lenses won't come with the original caps. Those can be sold on eBay for up to 40 EUR each. I guess people are "unbundling" them... Assuming (since you say 39 mm) it´s the older model without a pull-out shade, on those rare occasions when I don´t use the clip-on shade (reversed, with its own cap) on mine, I have an old Schneider push-on black plastic cap that says diam 42, and which fits perfectly. If you´re into collecting, of course only an original will do. Otherwise, try any generic 42 mm push-on from your dealer´s junk box.

Not that mere though as it costs about EUR 50 in Europe right now. Welcome, dear visitor! I wonder if I can get the tail part to use this on the M8 directly...
UliWer Posted March 11, 2011 Share #5 Posted March 11, 2011 was that lens ever sold "head only"? I got mine head only with the 16464 (Visoflex focusing thingy). I wonder if I can get the tail part to use this on the M8 directly... The lens-head of the 4/135 Elmar was often sold alone to be used on the Visoflex. You might get the focussing part ("Stutzen") alone as well (though they are rare), but both parts have to be adjusted together, otherwise you'll have severe misfocus with the unit. The metal lens cap is the same you need for the older (chrome) versions of the 50 Summicron (collapsable and rigid) or for the the last chrome version of the 2.8/50 Elmar. especially for this lens their may be still some new around at Leica dealer's.-
lct Posted March 11, 2011 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2011 was that lens ever sold "head only"? I got mine head only with the 16464 (Visoflex focusing thingy). I wonder if I can get the tail part to use this on the M8 directly... The "stutzen" referred to by UliWer was a short focus mount for use with Visoflex if memory serves. I don't think you will find the long focus mount easily as it was not an accessory but a part of the Elmar 135/4 the lens head of which could be acquired separately for use with Visoflex and adapters. Also if you find one you will have to get the long mount adjusted to your lens head if you want to avoid misfocus problems. Now the Elmar 135/4 is not expensive second hand and remember that it becomes a 180mm lenses on the M8 as far as FoV is concerned. Difficult to focus it accurately at faster apertures than f/5.6 then if you don't use a magnifier.
adan Posted March 11, 2011 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica still produces the silver and black A42 caps since they are standard for the 90 Macro lenses. A silver one of those will be the correct "cosmetic" match for the 135 Elmar. Pricey, however. The standard black-plastic snap-on 39mm caps (for 50 and 35 'crons and the 28 Elmarit ASPH) will also fit any other 39mm-filter lens.
