robert_parker Posted July 14, 2006 Share #41 Posted July 14, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) What a relief - we seem to be back to business as usual now and have truely recovered the tone and style of the old forum!! Not sure what the deal is here- yes, we should try and make constructive criticism, no, we shouldn't post criticism if someone doesen't want it and no, nobody cares about the counters - I probably prefer them to be there rather than not, as they do indicate a bit of provenance, on the part of the poster. Relatively few just post to reck up numbers.

MrEd Posted July 14, 2006 Share #45 Posted July 14, 2006 Reading Templar's comments made me laugh so hard, I almost fell of my chair. That was a good one. :) Thanks William. Ed. .
abrewer Posted July 14, 2006 Share #46 Posted July 14, 2006 I'm with Ed. William K surely must have had tongue squarely in cheek with his post. I cannot imagine the Templar I know and respect would engage another member in this manner. I'll add that some of Conrad's photo posts are among the best we've ever seen here: think of the recent "Sisters" wedding shot, for example. He does not, and certainly need not, doubt his abilities!!! I hear Conrad saying that there's a need to use some common sense in posting photos and in posting comments. Post what's good. Post what you're proud of. Post something constructive. Post something the rest of us can learn from. Keep to yourself what you know could have been done better, unless you specifically want or need help to improve. Keep to yourself cutting, derogatory remarks (remember that "Fly" Andreas had to swat not too long ago?) and puffery. Those sound like good goals for the community, frankly. Thanks. rick_dykstra Posted July 15, 2006 Share #52 Posted July 15, 2006 ... the LUG is a mailing list not a forum. It also happens to contain the most talented group of photographers I've come across on the internet. <snip> What Steve said. The LUG is a wonderfully eclectic collection of bright people and fine photographers. I like the fact that I can follow all of the threads at once by just scrolling through the emails. I have a 'rule' that syphons them into a folder, populated to the tune of 2,859 at the moment. I can read them on my powerbook when I'm not online. It's a much faster and more interactive method of sharing a multiplicity of thoughts than a forum like this. I enjoy the off-topic stuff. But this is the place for discussing Leica gear. Thanks to all here for that. I've tried on the LUG at times, only to see my need for help disappear into a rambling fog of often dogmatic philosophy. Aint the web grand?! If anyone feels the need, add up your posts from your various haunts and slap the total down on the table.
