Advertisement Posted January 25, 2007 Posted January 25, 2007 Hi frc, Take a look here 75 cron vs lux. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pesche Posted January 25, 2007 Share #22  Posted January 25, 2007 I would love to see a portrait at f/2 from the Summicron 75 if someone has one.  Here we go: M8, 75 cron, 2.0, 1/360, ISO 320  Welcome, dear visitor! carstenw Posted January 25, 2007 Share #23  Posted January 25, 2007 He seems rather shocked at your lens, Peter Maybe he (or she) was expecting the Lux  The Cron does look rather good, but I am afraid after the 80 Lux that the Cron won't have the magic for me. I am pretty much decided at this point to buy the Cron, and if I miss the Lux, then to buy a nice second-hand copy of that too, or maybe an older 50 Lux. This has been the hardest decision for me, in moving to the M8.
colorflow Posted January 25, 2007 Share #24  Posted January 25, 2007 I love the 75 Lux. See attached original and cropped shot.  Alan Welcome, dear visitor! wparsonsgisnet Posted January 25, 2007 Share #25 Â Posted January 25, 2007 The bokeh you can see from the 'Lux in the above photos is really beautiful.
Eoin Posted January 25, 2007 Share #26  Posted January 25, 2007 Here is 2 photos, tears after a fall;) Both with the 75 Summicron, 1st @ f/2.0 and the other at f/4.0. This is the only lens I'm not sure about, the EF85L was my mainstay and I tossed and turned over 75 Lux v Cron. I guess I reasoned newer design, smaller, better optics. But while it's a fantastic lens, I'm missing the softer tones and fear the Lux should have been the choice. Welcome, dear visitor! pesche Posted January 25, 2007 Share #28  Posted January 25, 2007 I'm missing the softer tones and fear the Lux should have been the choice  The lux can be very soft and smooth, here an example at f 1.4:  Welcome, dear visitor! jaapv Posted January 26, 2007 Share #29 Â Posted January 26, 2007 But the Summilux also does fine with high contrast: Â Â Â Low contrast and grey weather: Â Â Â Â Â And of course a superb night lens: Â Â Â
innerimager Posted January 26, 2007 Author Share #30 Â Posted January 26, 2007 I'm so glad I started this thread to see such lovely images...just beautiful. but egad, it's impossible to choose! I "might" get the cron new with the discount, and a used lux! I hate you guys! best.....peter
Eoin Posted January 26, 2007 Share #31 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Peter, do you see the "halo glow" as I call it with the Summilux, this is what I miss most. The Cron does not give this effect at all, it's not a matter of the aperture difference between f/1.4 and say f/2, I had this with the 85L and just can't get the Cron to reproduce it. Would you have a 75 Summilux shot at say somewhere between f/2 and f/4 by any chance?.
innerimager Posted January 26, 2007 Author Share #32 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Eoin- yes I do. (If I'm the Peter you meant!). I also see the punch and colors of the cron. Really, they paint different pictures, very different brushes. sigh.....peter
gesper Posted January 26, 2007 Share #33 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Nice pictures, Peter, but would be interesting to see the Lux at 2.8 to compare with the Cron. Or, as someone else suggested, both at 2.0.

eronald Posted January 26, 2007 Share #35  Posted January 26, 2007 You guys are of no help here deciding  For your type of stuff, Guy, it's the cron you need.  Edmund
wparsonsgisnet Posted January 26, 2007 Share #36 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Guy called it right. People often ask questions so they can hear what they want to hear. Â None of that here!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted January 26, 2007 Share #37 Â Posted January 26, 2007 I have the cron now and it truly is a great lens ,no question about that but i do want a softy in my bag, Either the Nocti or the 75 lux becuase i am going to sell my 80 Lux on the R which i do love so i do need that kind of replacement for certain things
arminw Posted January 26, 2007 Share #38 Â Posted January 26, 2007 I would love to see a portrait at f/2 from the Summicron 75 if someone has one. Even better would be similar shots, both at f/2 from both lenses, and at f/1.4 from the Lux... Â Here is also my entry to demonstrate the 75mm cron f2 .... I've uploaded this image before so I do apologise to those who've seen it already ...
innerimager Posted January 26, 2007 Author Share #39 Â Posted January 26, 2007 wonderful, and exactly what I wanted to see, a B&W cron image. I'm thinking, to quote Guy, that I have a "softy" in my noctilux, and am leaning to the cron. best....peter
carstenw Posted January 26, 2007 Share #40 Â Posted January 26, 2007 Why sell the 80 Lux, Guy? If I could have kept my 80 Lux I would have, but I had to sell the 5D. The 80 Lux is a much nicer lens to handle than the 75 Lux, or at least I thought so when I handled the 75 Lux on a few occasions. Â You could also keep the non-Asph 50 Lux in mind. Apparently it has a similar look.
