what's a metal adjusting cam in the shutter's anti-return mechanism for?

The anti-return mechanism keeps the shutter from opening if the shutter is partly cocked and tension on the advance lever is released. The plastic adjusting cam will deform and fail under the pressure of its locking screw. The metal cam works much better.

What would a recal to silver-oxide do?

1.5-volt silver-oxide batteries are readily available and last a very very long time. The original mercury batteries are no longer available and the air cell replacements don't last nearly as long.

And the original leicaflex's shutter assembly (which was individual parts, rather than drop-in), how's that work in an SL? (or is that a no go)

I haven't had any trouble with the plastic film take-up fingers but if you're concerned that it could be a problem ask for a metal take-up spool (perhaps the one from the Leicaflex Standard will fit).

My other Leicaflex SL has a stripped takeup reel.

Very nice cameras built like tanks.

Only problem was they were outdated by Nikon when originally produced so they never took off .

I have LFI issues where they state a behind the lens meter is impossible. No forward thinking I say.

Leica's position, quoted in a circa. 1965 LFI, was that through the lens metering wasn't sensitive enough to incorporate into the original Leicaflex.

After shooting a few rolls with an SL I've grown somewhat addicted to these fine cameras. So I picked up an original Leicaflex with pie counter and an SL2 body as well. Also a few R lenses. Man, this gear is amazingly nice, so solid! I'll have to snap some pics of the collection at some point but right now I'm still mulling whether to leave everything as it is or send some of them in for CLA and updating the battery voltages.

@JC

is there any difference in tactile feel when going from say the Standard Mk1 to the SL2? How would you compare the evolutions from mk1, to mk2, to SL, to SL2? and how does the tandem motor work?

Jason
