patashnik Posted February 7, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted February 7, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been offered a bunch of Leica R stuff at what I think is a decent price, and this includes a Leica digital module (DMR). I remember that they were quite expensive when they were released, but surely these must have come down in price since then? Does anyone know what they fetch on the used marked, in used condition? rsh Posted February 7, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted February 7, 2011 If you want a DMR, get it. They range in price from $3,000.00 to about $4,500.00 depending on the condition. .
01af Posted February 7, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted February 7, 2011 While demand is rather low actually, supply is even lower. So prices in the used market still are pretty steep. And even by today's standards a DMR definitely is worthwhile ... if you have an R8 or R9 and some R lenses to use it with.
patashnik Posted February 7, 2011 Author Share #6 Â Posted February 7, 2011 Thank you all, I actually jumped on it (or, actually, threw myself at it) - since I got an absurdly good price. So, great, let's see if I can find a lens for it as well

So, great, let's see if I can find a lens for it as well  You won't regret this. My R8/DMR & 80 Summilx is the finest kit I have ever used. Post your images soon & don't forget, there's a very strong group of DMR users on the Forum. I can't say enough about the quality of the files & the ergonomics of the R8/R9. Good Luck. garyp Posted February 18, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted February 18, 2011 There's a DMR + R8 on eBay being auctioned by a photo store in Colorado. [good starting price] I have no connection whatsover, just passin' it along.
Solar B Posted March 13, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted March 13, 2011 Ive read a lot of good things about these DMRs dig backs ... a friend mentioned them to me a long time ago now . Â Are they better than say an M8/9 ... they would have to be given their rarity and price. Â Reason i ask is that i quite fancy a chrome R8 ... and a DMR may be something for the future ... would you not need Bionic arms to hold it all. stuny Posted March 13, 2011 Share #10 Â Posted March 13, 2011 It's amazingly good, it's quite heavy (and fun to hand to somebody to shock them at its heft), but the ergonomics are so good that it handles well.
Julian H Posted March 13, 2011 Share #11 Â Posted March 13, 2011 DMR's offer amazing image quality no doubt helped by the Leica lenses. The image quality should be similar to or slightly better than the M8 but there is more difference in the performance due to the lens you use. As an overall package with R8's [must find a nice R9 one day I think] there is still no other DSLR I would prefer to use. As Stuny said, hefty but amazingly good ergonomics. For me, its one of those "feels just right" tools with superb image quality potential. The only downside to me is the AWB is not up to current standards. Julian H Posted March 13, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted March 13, 2011 Do you think it is then Jaap? I wonder what I must be doing wrong. Anyway, I use custom for important stuff.
patashnik Posted March 14, 2011 Author Share #14 Â Posted March 14, 2011 Being new to this, I might be able to answer your question. I bought the R9 and a DMR, and after some convincing from the crowd here gave it a thourough tryout (around 1500 images over a period of two weeks). Ergonomics is beyond any camera I have ever used, it is in one word "perfect". Heavy? Perhaps, but compared to a pro DSLR, I find there really isn't an issue. But everything is placed exactly where you want it - the R9 fits my hand like nothing else. Â File quality is very good, the lack of anti aliasing filter really does wonders, and I'm not sure I care about megapixels anymore. It's almost film like. Â My main reason for calling it quits, and shipping it off to a dealer, is that I'm not good at the manual focusing bit. I know this comes with practice, but my eyesight really isn't up to it. Hopefully, when all is said and done - I hope mine ends up with someone who get's to use the *@!@* out of it. Â Price? They really aren't all that different from an M8, and certainly not an M8.2. From what my dealer said, the R9 and DMR will go up for sale for 2500 GBP for the combo.

Julian H Posted March 14, 2011 Share #16 Â Posted March 14, 2011 Or me, Julian I never had any complaint in this respect - now if you had said limited ISO range... Â Â Just shows how we are all different. The high ISO's don't worry me, I usually only use 100 or 200. I guess the better and higher performance high ISO range would make it more attractive to others though. Â The only real concerns I have is battery life and support if it goes wrong sometime in the future. As I said, I can work around the WB issue when I need to. jaapv Posted March 14, 2011 Share #17 Â Posted March 14, 2011 Higher ISO comes into play when using long lenses hand-held, which is what I use the camera for. My compromise now is 200 and a beanbag.

If he's selling that on comission, unless it's a wreck, he is probably underpricing it and therefore doing you out of value.  You should offer it for sale here, yourself. But in this case, I'm just personally more comfortable doing this through a dealer. Hopefully, the potential buyer will feel the same way. In this case, the dealer is a major player here in Europe, and it takes a lot of fuss out of the deal for me (which is what I'm paying for, I guess )  Anyway, the place I bought it from actually found the box for the DMR, the film back and battery pack for the R9, manuals, warranty cards, seperate focusing screen for the R9, etc. It showed up on my door step today - so that was a pleasant surprise (even though I will just ship it off to the dealer doing the commision sale for me).
