jifjif Posted January 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) There was a brief talk regarding tightness of this lens on M8/M9 in other thread (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/158816-weird-lenses-m9-4.html#post1585862) Of course Dirk has been very kind in assisting me in this but I couldn't come with right solution. Anyone else have come up with a solution?

Xmas Posted January 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 28, 2011 There was a brief talk regarding tightness of this lens on M8/M9 in other thread (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m9-forum/158816-weird-lenses-m9-4.html#post1585862) Of course Dirk has been very kind in assisting me in this but I couldn't come with right solution. Anyone else have come up with a solution? Hi Tightness is a generic problem it seems to be worse with M2s and M3s, it can apply to any lens or adapter, modern Leica and CV LTM adapters seems to be worst! I gave the adapter away. Some new Leica lenses have limited area to hold and you need to use real effort. Dare not use the lens body as it is one of the suspect ones... The Leitz technique circa 1975 was padded pliers to reduce the tension on the spring (ring) of the baynet mount, I'd not think of lapping a lens... I'd complain to dealer if It was a new lens, my dealer made very sympathetic noises, and phoned Boutique people immediately, who confirmed it was not an unknown problem, (which I was aware of independently,) and to send the lens back... Apart from the risk of grit ingress, there is the other problem. Circa 1980 the Leitz published an alert for f/1 Noct users saying their camera needed to be sent back with the lens if they had problems with focus accuracy, Leitz suggested they would both recal the rangefinder and the registration distance as e.g. the chrome could have worn on heavily used cameras... There was a risk the focus problem was the camera not the new lens.. To be more blunt you are grinding into the lens register distance (and implicitly the focus heliciod distance which is dependent on the registration) and although the tolerances should be large (with a slow 35mm) it will be also apparent if you want to sell the lens. If you dont sell it as bodged expect a return... Noel

chris_tribble Posted January 29, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2011 Not a solution, just a comment. On my M9 the Perar 35 is very easy to mount - smooth, no slack, a great fit (and the milled edge is ok to grip too...)
kdemas Posted January 31, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 31, 2011 Interesting. My Perar mounts very comfortably on my M8 and M7. Love this little lens!

Washington Posted April 23, 2011 Share #8 Posted April 23, 2011 I can’t blame anyone for being skeptical about the lapping method I mentioned in the previous blog. But fear of girt ingest is no problem if you are careful and neat…. you are only using a plastic cap ….. and there is no tolerance change as you are only cleaning up the flange. It is amazing how the slightest deformation from machining can cause this to happen. It’s very easy to clean the compound for trial fitting here. There is no magic in it. ldhrads Posted April 25, 2011 Share #9 Posted April 25, 2011 I sent mine back to Japan, Dirk and the maker were good enough to easily make some minor changes, Now it fits nicely, albeit a bit snug. It's a neat little lens. LDH
Ecar Posted May 25, 2011 Share #10 Posted May 25, 2011 For those who missed out on the first one, it seems that a new batch of 200 is being manufactured. AlanJW Posted May 25, 2011 Share #12 Posted May 25, 2011 I have one ordered also. For those who already have it: is Summarit 35 the best code to use?
tdtaylor Posted May 25, 2011 Share #13 Posted May 25, 2011 Thanks for asking. I searched the previous threads without success and was about to post the same question. I noted it comes now with a bayonet mount (no adapter) and without 6 bit coding.
250swb Posted May 25, 2011 Share #14 Posted May 25, 2011 I think the coding rebates are there, its just that the code isn't already chosen for you. I have been using the 'factory default' Summarit code on my Mk1 Perar and it works fine. Steve
Ecar Posted May 25, 2011 Share #15 Posted May 25, 2011 My MkI came coded. Default is indeed the Summarit 35. Works fine. On a side note, I can't get the M9 to recognize it (have to select it manually), while the M8 appears to "see" it. Probably some slight mount misalignment. picki Posted May 25, 2011 Share #16 Posted May 25, 2011 Hi, how is it about use on the M8 concerning UV/IR. They offer an 19mm UV filter but not IR. Will this cover for the M8 sensitivity? Are there any other 19mm UV/IR filters? Collapsing the lens mounted on the M8 should be fine? Thanks! Picki
papimuzo Posted May 26, 2011 Share #17 Posted May 26, 2011 You can get UV/IR filter 19mm here: http://www.foto-huppert.de/default2.asp Mail them they reply in English. HTH
UliWer Posted May 26, 2011 Share #18 Posted May 26, 2011 Can anybody tell me how much tax and customs you have to pay in the EEC if you order it from Japan?
250swb Posted May 26, 2011 Share #19 Posted May 26, 2011 Can anybody tell me how much tax and customs you have to pay in the EEC if you order it from Japan? No, the UK has its own tax and import duties, but I can tell you they won't send it with a low Customs valuation on it to help save duty. UliWer Posted May 26, 2011 Share #20 Posted May 26, 2011 I just looked on the website of the german customs. I think I have to add 6,7% customs for lenses and 19% for tax.
