luigi bertolotti Posted January 24, 2011 Share #21 Posted January 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I thought of that. Are these better than the Tele-elmarit and Summicron?By the way, the seller of the summicron 90mm typ2 just send me an email that he wants to sell it to me for 450 euro's (almost mint black version). I checked out the Tele-elmarit Nano and the output looks great! Much more signature than the Tele-elmarit type 2. To bad most of them on sale are around 950 euro's and more. I had the Elmar C 90 : fine, but no better than the "Nano" around 5,6-8 ; the so called "type 2" Tele Elmarit, by itself, has a strange proneness to have the back lens "contaminated" by lubricant... I remember to have read some detailled story about this issue (maybe in Camerquest' site). 450 Euros is good for a next to mint Summicron... but, remember, you'll seldom use it at f2 (it's simply risky) , with the result to have a rather bulk f 2,8... . At the end... take one of these two... : Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Advertisement Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Hi luigi bertolotti, Take a look here 90mm Summicron or Tele-Elmarit. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 24, 2011 Share #22 Posted January 24, 2011 I am finding the 90 Elmarit M difficult to focus on the M8? any tips? I am even using the mag but its always soft or out of focus? Have a 50 and 35mm lens both of which are super sharp. Maybe the lens needs adjusting - or you need to practice your focussing - or you are seeing movement blur. Make a focus test the right way (chart - lens wide open on tripod) : could be it needs calibration of the RF cam : I had mine registered when bought it, and now is perfect on my M8. Thats what I am thinking... would this also affect the other lenses? or is it just the 90mm that is calibrated? Anyone in Manchester who can do this? or is it Solms.. jaapv Posted January 24, 2011 Share #26 Posted January 24, 2011 Not necessarily Solms - any competent technician can adjust this lens.
epand56 Posted January 24, 2011 Share #27 Posted January 24, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am wondering if the 90mm lenses made for the Leitz/Minolta CL and CLE would be an option for this Poster?Could someone Comment? Thx I have the Elmar-C 90mm and I think it is an outstanding lens, small and dead sharp. Actually one of my preferred glasses. The only possible drawback is the f:4 aperture. But i often took perfect pictures in dim light environments. It is also very cheap. A sample here:

Have a 50 and 35mm lens both of which are super sharp. Two points. Maybe the lens needs shimming. Any chance of finding a nearby member of this forum and trying on his M8 or 9. When I first got my 90 Elmarit, I also found my shots less sharp than I had expected. I found it was due to camera shake. Remember it has an EFOV of 135mm, so with the old rule of thumb, your minimum shutter speed should be 1/135th of a second, when hand held. The M8's sensor demands such sharpness that I found that unless braced against something, ultimate sharpness really needed 1/250th of a second. epand56 Posted January 25, 2011 Share #32 Posted January 25, 2011 Wow, thanks for this example. This is a razorsharp image! I think I underestimated these C lenses. I have both the lenses of the CL, the Elmar-C 90/4 and the Summicron-C 40/2 and they are pure gold. Very sharp, light and not at all expensive. I'm used to travel only with them because they can stay in my pocket. This is another one with the Elmar-C 90 at f:4 in very low light.

Wilson Thanks for this, I live in the Manchester area so would be willing to travel to anyone nearby. I have tried resting the camera flat against my chest, on a table on self timer but the colour and focus is way off given the sharpness of the 50mm. WarriorJazz Posted January 25, 2011 Author Share #34 Posted January 25, 2011 Have any of you guys tried to use a magnifier on your M8 when using a 90mm? I'm thinking about selling my Rolleiflex 2.8 to finance maybe a 90mm Elmarit of newer summicron version. It's clear to me I need more budget. I love the 90mm CL but I think I'll need a faster lens. Next week I need to take pictures for a concert pianist in a theater. So the faster the better. To bad a summilux is way out of my budget. (maybe I need to sell a kidney...?) ;-) Does somebody have any b/w photo's made with an Elmarit? I really want to see its output. Flickr is to clutted to find some decent shot were you can be certain that it was made with this lens.

Warrior, I sometimes use the 0.25 magnifier on my M8 and it sure helps, but I can still focus without it also with the 90, so it is often in my drawer. Anyway, here you are a couple B&W pictures taken with the Elmarit M 90/2.8 (very recent sample, black and silver box, sliding hood and all):

Flickr is to clutted to find some decent shot were you can be certain that it was made with this lens. Have one but never use it with any lens. If the rangefinder is properly adjusted vertically and horizontally and you can see the rangefinder patch clearly, proper diopter or glasses, I don't find the need for the magnifier. Again to each their own.
epand56 Posted January 25, 2011 Share #39 Posted January 25, 2011 Richard and Jaap, my dear friends that's too kind of you. Thank you for your comments. Actually, this camera and its lenses make miracles The Elmarit M really is a GREAT lens, even when used in twilight or even night if you have a firm hand (which I don't). I really recommend it. WarriorJazz Posted January 25, 2011 Author Share #40 Posted January 25, 2011 Enrico, Thank you for your examples! I'm completely in awe when I saw your photo's. I love how the lens draws in the second picture. You convinced me to try to get a Elmarit! And about the magnifier, I have to try one I guess to see if I need it. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
