epand56 Posted January 12, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 12, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just bought a CV Ultron 28/1.9 and I'm quite satisfied with it. It looks like this lens has no focus shift, the focus in the pictures is on the wooden fork on the right. However I've found a certain softness wide open to f:2.8, than becomes quite sharp. Any feedback or hints from other users of this lens? Top to bottom: f:1.9 - f:2.8 - f:4 - f:5.6 - f:8 Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Hi epand56, Take a look here M8 + Ultron 28/1.9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
efix Posted January 12, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 12, 2011 The Ultron only becomes really sharp from f/2.8 onwards. At wider apertures, it is slightly soft indeed. But personally I find this only shows at 100% magnification. And let's be honest - when do you ever view your pictures at a size that this becomes visible? (Except for when you're "pixel peeping", of course ...) A great lens as I find, with nice colours and contrast. Only a tad large and heavy for my taste, but that's what you get for an affordable f/1.9 aperture at this focal length ...
deirdre Posted January 12, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 12, 2011 I found it acceptably sharp under hostile circumstances: not at infinity, wide open, dark o'clock, on a boat, moving. Pixel peeping, well, it's less sharp, but hey, it's pretty good: Kilauea at Dawn by Deirdre Saoirse Moen, on Flickr Edited to add: I could kick myself for not removing the IR cut filter for some shots of the volcano, though. Might have been interesting.
geotrupede Posted January 12, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 12, 2011 Same experience here. One of the key features is superb flare control. Very good lens. You are lucky to have found one! :-) G
farnz Posted January 13, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 13, 2011 Enrico, It looks to be nicely flare-resistant. Pete.

WestMichigan Posted January 13, 2011 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2011 Hello My Friend, Looks like you've got a keeper of a lens. From your sample shots, it does appear to have a different 'character' as a lens when used wider than about f2.8. I'd certainly use it. Now Enrico! As for those soiled utensils in the utensil keeper... sigh. Maybe it's an American Thing, cuz while I'm anything but a neat freak (trust me on this!), I winced looking at em. Although, maybe you were intruding upon the Misses shooting boring test shots while she was toiling away making your supper! epand56 Posted January 13, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted January 13, 2011 Lol, Richard, I didn't notice those old worn out wooden forks were this ugly. Actually, because of this, they were very good objects to focus on Regarding the lens, i think as well this is a keeper. I suppose it needs experiencing with it before perfectly understand its behaviour and get the best out of it. I will work on this (and throw those forks).
