Another photo of mine. Looking at this photo, I think I should have had the lugs replaced, when CRR did a total overhaul earlier this year. My second favourite Leica after the M240.

Lovely camera Wilson!

Did CRR replace the vulcanite also? If so, how is their replacement vulcanite compared to the original?

The M4 body was my 21st birthday present, bought new from Lizars in Aberdeen. Peter at CRR thinks it is an Aki-Asahi cover. The camera for various complicated family reasons, ended up in my uncle’s hands for some years (he did not know the camera was mine). When he later found whose the camera was, he returned it. He must have had it recovered, as I didn’t.

Someone here did not believe me when I mentioned that one of my M4s lugs were dangerously thin. But it looks like you still have several years left in yours.

I sent mine back to Leica (US) years ago and had them replace the viewfinder masks with ones from the M2. Best of all worlds, viz., an M4 with M2 attributes.

You dropped the 135mm frame-lines. Good idea.

I did not think of that when I had the mask replaced earlier this year - blast! I never use a 135 on the M4, so the frame is just an irritation.

Soz, my mistake. Didn't know you guys segregated that hard.

It was just a suggestion. Seeing as there are already dedicated threads for the M4-2 and M4-P. They are pretty different cameras after ll. The M4/M5 marked the end of an era. The M4-2/P the start of a new one in so many ways.

Don’t be coy - what is your serial number? I have never quite understood this shyness about numbers. If some crook wants to use my number on an eBay posting - well he could have got it from various websites, which post serial number sequences. I am quite proud of my M4 number, which at 1175047, is the lowest I have ever seen posted.
