bocaburger Posted January 5, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 5, 2011 DIY Skins This is NOT the same stuff as stick-on PDA protectors. It does not peel at the corners, and scratches seem to heal themselves. I get the sheets and cut my own, applying them dry vs the soapy-water-spray method. Have had one on my cell phone for 2 yrs, no sign of wear. Had one on my M8, now the M9. In fact, anything I own with an LCD. Much safer IMO than the thin glass Giottos which if it cracks could ruin the LCD it was designed to protect.
doubice Posted January 5, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 5, 2011 I use AC-MAXX Hard LCD Protectors. Not as flimsy as the film and will not break as a Giotto did. They are held by a 1mm light adhesive strip around the perimeter of the protector and are easy to remove should one wish to do so. They are on all my digitals. For the M8 or M9 - get their generic 2.5" protector; it is not necessary to pay the extra$$ for the Leica-specific one. They are identical..... epand56 Posted January 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 6, 2011 I've put one of those static (not adesive) protective films on the screen of my M8 about three years ago when I bought it. It is still there and looks like no film is on the screen. No scratches or bubbles or anything like that. I've bought two on eBay at the time, the second is taking dust somewhere in my drawers. billco Posted January 6, 2011 Author Share #10 Posted January 6, 2011 Giotto seems to offer no "Leica specific" screen protector, but 3 different 2.5" "normal" protectors. Which one fits the M9 the best? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! doubice Posted January 6, 2011 Share #11 Posted January 6, 2011 You have the dimensions right there - just get out the calipers or the ruler.... Also - two reports above of the 8250 being the right size. Best, Jan

cornbarn Posted January 7, 2011 Share #14 Posted January 7, 2011 I was unable to get hold of the Giottos SP8250 in the UK so have used the Ac-Maxx protector on both my M8 and X1. They are a good fit and after 6 months plus have given good service. Tony
