jtbthree Posted January 4, 2011 Share #1 Posted January 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I need to remove a Giottos screen protector from my M9; I assume there will be some sticky residue from the adhesive left on the screen after I do so. What is the best way to clean this off without damaging the screen; the screen is NOT the sapphire crystal.

Bill W Posted January 4, 2011 Share #2 Posted January 4, 2011 Gently rubbing, sticky tape to lift it off, rubbing alcohol, or something i have used on plastic many times to lift off sticky residue is lighter fluid but being very careful. Also a citrus based cleaner might do as well. Do the original mounting instructions have any suggestions?
richfx Posted January 4, 2011 Share #3 Posted January 4, 2011 My Giottos Aegis SP 8250 fell off my M9 after nine months of duty and left no adhesive or residue at all on the LCD. I used a hairdryer to warm up the adhesive and refastened it. Two months later, no problems. Rich
menos I M6 Posted January 4, 2011 Share #4 Posted January 4, 2011 My house hold solution for pesky gluey tape residues since I can think of is first the gaffer tape solution (stick gaffer tape to residue, quickly pull tape away and take residue with tape). If this doesn't work, I use Olive Oil and rubbing with a not fuzzy cloth. This removes anything - careful, where you use that combo though - some materials (printed paint on metal, etc…) do not like the method.
Bill Allsopp Posted January 4, 2011 Share #5 Posted January 4, 2011 Furniture polish is very good at removing sticky tape residue. Never tried it on a camera though.
jaapv Posted January 4, 2011 Share #6 Posted January 4, 2011 I'm not sure that is a very good idea: the screen is coated and furniture polish might damage the coating. I would try a quick wipe of white spirit.

I would try a quick wipe of white spirit. You surprise me, a spray type furniture polish I would expect to be far less damaging than an alcohol based cleaner. I wait the outcome with interest. gabriel Posted January 4, 2011 Share #8 Posted January 4, 2011 My Giottos Aegis came off my M8 with nil residue, LIGHTLY warm and use credit card to lift. Beware of domestic polishes as they can contain silicone which leaves a hard to remove residue.
MarkP Posted January 4, 2011 Share #9 Posted January 4, 2011 I recently replaced mine as it had a bad scratch:(. There was minimal residue which came off with gently rubbing using spray-on Giottos lens cleaner and a cloth:). It's no big deal. Mark

AlanJW Posted January 5, 2011 Share #11 Posted January 5, 2011 I have not had residue from Giottos, except mere traces that came off with finger rubbibg or a gentle use of fingernail.
