chris_tribble Posted January 25, 2011 Share #81 Posted January 25, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Oh my ! Just wanted to say rendering of the whole scene is very Sigma DP1 like ... my DP1 had what i called "a brittle" rendering of such scenes .. which i have seen from DP(1s &x) & SD14, SD15. I actually think this is more down to the way the OP does his post-processing:
Advertisement Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hi chris_tribble, Take a look here weird lenses for the m9. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
geesbert Posted January 25, 2011 Author Share #82 Posted January 25, 2011 I received mine today. Customs took 19 days and I had to pay 145 €. Daylight robbery! has anyone found an alternative to the screw-in cap?
jaapv Posted January 25, 2011 Share #83 Posted January 25, 2011 I actually think this is more down to the way the OP does his post-processing:I quite agree. A small foray into the current sharpening discussions seems indicated. These have clearly been missharpened. It happens to us all on web conversions. One moment of inattention...In this case it is a real pity as these are darn good photographs.

C_R Posted January 25, 2011 Share #85 Posted January 25, 2011 Oh my ! Just wanted to say rendering of the whole scene is very Sigma DP1 like ... my DP1 had what i called "a brittle" rendering of such scenes .. which i have seen from DP(1s &x) & SD14, SD15. I plead gulity ;-) You are quite right, and Jaap said it already: this is oversharpened, and already the original DNG has been mistreated by too much first-pass sharpening. I had a Canon 5D before and was used to sharpen the RAW in order to compensate for file softness from Canon lens and AA filter. With M9 files, this is a bad habit, they are of such high quality that they dont need so much first pass sharpening, if any. Jaap will have a heart attack when he reads my settings here, 0.3 points and 250% amount, threshold 1 (in Capture One 6.0). It was only recently when I got the hang of this (thanks, Jaap for your FAQ statement. I have changed my Capture One settings) A redo of this shot with mild presharpening will change the look dramatically, I suppose
Ecar Posted January 26, 2011 Share #86 Posted January 26, 2011 Received my Perar just before Christmas, albeit with some delay (Dirk kept me informed all the way - his communication is first class) and was only able to take a few pictures with the lens today. The lens is somewhat cumbersome to use - or rather, it challenges one's habits, as the focus and aperture "tabs" do not fall where your fingers would expect them to. Coupling is indeed very tight on the M9 and, if you don't screw the lens properly in, you end up bringing up the wrong framelines and/or the code not being recognised. I found that the situation was slightly better on my well worn M8. I agree that the screw-in front cap is a bit of nuisance: unless you have child-sized fingers and are prepared to remove the little shade between shots, the cap must stay off. IMO, a small push-on cap would have been more practical. From what I have seen so far, the IQ is very decent overall: the "native" color balance is perhaps a bit too vivid and the lens is prone to noticeable veiling flare at f/3.5, but focus is spot on and pictures are very sharp. Net net, from what limited tests I have been able to do this morning, it remains an "exotic" lens and won't replace my Leica glass, but it will be fun to use from time to time or when bulk matters. papimuzo Posted January 26, 2011 Share #87 Posted January 26, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) For those who are not afraid about putting a filter in front of their lenses, my solution was to eliminate the front cap and put a HV or HV-IR filter in place. chris_tribble Posted January 26, 2011 Share #88 Posted January 26, 2011 B****y Parcel Force have returned mine to their depot claiming that I wasn't hanging around all day waiting for them to deliver. Not Dirk's fault - but I want to go out and play with my new toy...
JapanExposures Posted February 1, 2011 Share #89 Posted February 1, 2011 Carl Zeiss Contax G Planar 45/2 converted to Leica M mount by Dirk | JapanExposures.com, on Flickr Perhaps not "weird", but at least unusual and a true classic. I have borrowed a Summicron 50/2 and plan to shoot them side by side in due course… watch this space. Anyone interested in helping out with a semi-formal testing methodology, please get in touch. helged Posted May 29, 2011 Share #92 Posted May 29, 2011 The Perar is really nice :-) This is my bag for running, 7,50 € from ebay ... ...looks as a good combo for biking as well - do you happen to recall the ebay-name of the bag? Alternatively, any suggestions for suitable (thight) "bodycase" for a M9-Perar combo? Thanks!
