Hi all,

Just a silly question....do the light frames in the rangefinder work also with voigtlander lenses?

I am also looking for an uv ir filer for my voigtlander 28 f1.9....which filter should I buy?

Where can I find it?

Sorry for bothering with these "stupid" questons but I am brand new in the Leica world....

Thanks for helping.

I looked into this and it appears that lens takes a 46mm filter.

I'll buy from B&H or Adorama and I have come to like B+W filters for the performance and price. Adorama lists two, I image one is silver and the other is black

66014686 B + W 46mm UV/IR Blocking #486 Glass Filter for Blocking Ultra Violet and Infrared Radiation

66019756 B + W 46mm Digital Pro UV/IR Blocking #486 Glass Filter for Blocking Ultra Violet and Infrared Radiation

You may have to call them because I do not see either of them say silver or black, and I do not know what color lens you have.

With a M adapter on the lens it should work fine with the M8. I do not know what adapter you have as to what frame will come up, but I am certain there is a 28mm M adapter.

Never a stupid question as they say.

Hi Giorgio,

I wonder if by 'Light Frames' you are are referring to the 'Bright Frame Lines' that help with composing properly in the viewfinder when using different lenses? It seems that is so by the thrust of your question, but assumptions easily lead to miscommunication and/or wasting time getting answers to relatively simple questions. :)

'Assuming' your inquiry is related to Voigtlander Lenses and Frame Lines being called up Correctly by them: Yes they do, but it's NOT a Blanket Yes, a few are No, and some of the lenses only get to Yes by ensuring you are using the Proper Screw Mount to Bayonet Adapter for a given Focal Length. Further Voigtlander sells Lenses in Focal Lengths for which there are no In Viewfinder Framelines.

Confused Yet?

A decent resource I've found for learning about Voigtlander Lenses is the Following web page:Voigtlander Lenses Leica Mount

The page 'essentially' is an ever growing listing of all the Voigtlander Lenses Camera Quest sells right now, have sold in the past, and are taking orders for selling in the future.

There aren't any 'output samples' or the like, just good images of the lenses on both film & digital cameras, tips on using the particular lens in question, basic lens specifications, and Blurb-ish reviews on each lens.

Can't offer any input on the UV/IR question. Haven't grappled with it yet, myself.

Georgio,

Short answer: yes.

For Voigtlander screw mount lenses it's important to choose a screw thread to M mount adapter (also known as "LTM to M") that brings up the right frame lines for your lens. LTM to M adaptors are available with pairs of frame lines as 28/90, 50/75, and 35/135, which cover all the frame lines in the M8's viewfinder.

So, for example, for your screw mount 28/1.9 Aspherical Ultron you need a 28/90 LTM to M adaptor.

Pete.

Thank you all.

Yes, I referred to the bright frame lines (the ones that should help the photographer to compose the picture correctly).

On my model they do not light (they should become red, shouldn't them?).

I think I have the right adapter because it has been very easy to mount it on the camera...

Hello Giorgio!

I quite sincerely am wondering if your 'Leica M' Basic Camera Operation Information might have some deficits to it. Would you have an in person Friend or and Acquaintance who is experienced in the ways and methods of Leica M Camera Operations available to call upon? There likely are forum members who can give some decent online advice and maybe recommend some books or websites - that is IF there are some holes in your knowledge base. Maybe it's a language thing throwing me off. I do know I lack enough hands on familiarity to attempt to tackle giving Rangefinder M Operations information and tips! Probably just end up making an A@@ of Myself & end up not being of help either!

As for the 'Bright Lines' turning Red in the Viewfinder - I've been reading about Leica M's a Lot, Been Following the M8&M9 Online Closely, and handled a few film M's in my time, but I can't recall a single instance of reading about the Bright Line Framing Guides Ever Glowing Red.

Does Anyone Else Have Input on this for Giorgio?

Thx-

Giorgio,

No, the frame lines on the M8 do not light up in red or any other colour. The are made visible by the light entering from the rangefinder window - the little blue window to the left of the M8 logo. If you hold you finger over the rangefinder window and look through the viewfinder, the frame lines and focussing patch will disappear. I do it accidentally from time to time.

I believe that the new Titanium M9 has red frame lines that light up but mine hasn't arrived yet so I can't tell. Mine's due to arrive just after hell freezes over.

Thank you Pete. I understand now...

I was just scared that something in my camera was wrong...good to see that it is working in the standard way.

With a Vogtlander 28 f1.9 I should consider the larger frames, right? they should be studied for 35mm lenses...

thanks again for the big help.
