Digitom Posted November 29, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 29, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I posted already on the german forum section but maybe here is more response. I use the D-Lux 5 and I know Panasonic is supporting more supplements for the LX-5, e.g. Lens adaptor. I am interested using a Polfilter. But Leica told me they do not support that accessories because there can be inner-reflections when using the lens adaptor with a filter. Does anyone have experience using that equipment on a D-Lux 5 or D-Lux 4? Or on a Panasonic LX-3/5? Some comments would be fine. Or is there-alternatively- another possibility to mount a polfilter? I heard about some filters which can be plugged on the camera tubus directly (only when the cam is switched on, of course)? With a kind of rubber adaptor? I never see that before. Any ideas? Advertisement Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Hi Digitom, Take a look here Any experience with Panasonic Equipment on D-Lux 5?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Digitom Posted December 22, 2010 Author Share #2 Posted December 22, 2010 No experience on this planet ? Well, ok...
ho_co Posted December 23, 2010 Share #3 Posted December 23, 2010 Thomas-- There are other reports on the forum of people using Panasonic accessories on the D-Lux 5. Why not? Do with the camera as you want. You won't get any more reflections from using a Panasonic filter on the D-Lux 5 than you would using it on an LX5. I don't use filters on the D-Lux 4, but I've used the Panasonic wide angle attachment for it. It's interesting to play with, but optically not up to snuff. Try it. The accessories are for the most part inexpensive enough that you won't be throwing (much) money away if you don't like it.
anderswi Posted December 23, 2010 Share #4 Posted December 23, 2010 Panasonic equipment are made for Panasonic. Leica doesn´t even make add ons to the lens. Why? Happy Holidays to all of you out there!
farnz Posted December 23, 2010 Share #5 Posted December 23, 2010 ... Leica doesn´t even make add ons to the lens. Why? ... Because it wouldn't be profitable and therefore there's no business case? I don't know Leica's thinking but I expect it pretty much goes like this. Pete.
earleygallery Posted December 23, 2010 Share #6 Posted December 23, 2010 Panasonic equipment are made for Panasonic. And the Panasonic is essentially the same camera as the Leica, ergo Panasonic equipment will work on the Leica if you want to use it.
Shootist Posted December 23, 2010 Share #7 Posted December 23, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Simple answer is YES ALL Panasonic accessories made for the LX5 work without problems on the Leica Branded LX5 (better known as the D-Lux5). Why is this, simply because the D-Lux5 is the exact same camera as the LX5 other then the outside shell and a few user menu choices.
ho_co Posted December 24, 2010 Share #8 Posted December 24, 2010 ... Leica doesn´t even make add ons to the lens.... With the D-Lux 1, Leica offered their own 49mm lens adapter ring. IIRC, Panasonic's version was 48mm. With the Digilux 2, Leica offered several filters camera, and even a 69 to 72 step-up ring to use filters of a more standard size. Leica also offered an Elpro close-up achromat as compared to Panasonic's single-element close-up lenses. Since that time, Leica seems less interested in lens accessories, even though they offered their own 24mm viewfinder for the D-Lux 4. Leica didn't mention it, but Panasonic offered what was appraised here on the forum a decent wide-angle attachment, usable on the Digilux and on the Panasonic equivalent. The Panasonic wide-angle attachment for the LX3/D-Lux 4 is of little more than curiosity value IMHO. (Haven't tried the one for LX5.) I guess Leica goes where they can see added value or add-on sales.
Digitom Posted December 25, 2010 Author Share #9 Posted December 25, 2010 I also see no sense in using a wide angle adaptor for a camera which still offers 24mm. For a compact camera it is enough. And these adaptors sure reduce the quality of the image, and this runs against the "Leica philosophy". I just wanted to know if someone has experience with that supplement as e.g. polarizing filter and if there really some reflections occur if using the supplemental tubus. I think any cost for not useful equipment is a waste, if expensive or not. So I better ask before I buy, thats the advantage and the sense of any forum So thanks for responds.
