Ranma13 Posted November 16, 2010 Share #1 Posted November 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all, what's the smallest flash I can get with a swivel head? I'm trying to find a nice flash that will complement the diminutive size of the M9, but swivel head is very important for me because I use bounce flash quite often and some of my shots are done in portrait. It doesn't matter if it supports TTL with the M9 or not, and the age of the flash doesn't matter either, as long as it's small and swivels.

lct Posted November 16, 2010 Share #2 Posted November 16, 2010 The smallest i don't know but the Metz 20 C-2 and Nikons SB-17 or SB-20 should do it presumably. Never tried them with the M9 though.
jaapv Posted November 16, 2010 Share #3 Posted November 16, 2010 The Metz does not swivel; it just tilts. And it produces rather nasty light imo.
juergen Posted November 16, 2010 Share #4 Posted November 16, 2010 The Metz does not swivel; it just tilts. And it produces rather nasty light imo. Well, but it is referred to as "swivel reflector" nonetheless. Juergen
jaapv Posted November 16, 2010 Share #5 Posted November 16, 2010 Actually: "Vertikaler Schwenkreflektor" . I.e. tilt, not swivel. Translation error, I suppose.
250swb Posted November 16, 2010 Share #6 Posted November 16, 2010 If you don't mind working on Auto or Manual the Olympus FL36 has a swivel/tilt head. They can often be found on Ebay as they are now superceeded by the FL36R. Steve
Ranma13 Posted November 16, 2010 Author Share #7 Posted November 16, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Metz 20 C-2 is out because it's tilt only. I can't find the Nikon SB-17 or Nikon SB-20 anywhere for sale. The Olympus FL36 looks interesting. I'll research it more. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. Does anybody else have a flash they would recommend?
Photon42 Posted November 16, 2010 Share #8 Posted November 16, 2010 I quite like the Nikon DX80, but it may not be the footprint you're after. It has a white light slave cell built in (SU-4) as well, has quite a number of auto apertures and uses AA cells. And before I forget, I have slightly modified the foot with a Dremel, as these Leicas have this nasty bolt (ok - screw) back center of the flash shoe.
