Austin Healey...something different

Looks like a good barn find - project car. That vent could very well be real as the factory prepared race cars with that feature. Stirling Moss' sister raced one of those and it later sold in 2004 for £175,750 including buyer’s premium. This owner could be sitting on a good chunk of change!

Thanks for the comments...as for the car - I believe - and I could be wrong - that this treatment regarding the paint job is deliberate. There is a trend amongst some Euro car owners ( older VW's & BMW'sespecially) to go after a "rat-rod" look I need to re-check the P&S reference shot I took of this car specifically to be sure of that.

Jaap, are those the Morley brothers? Do you know which rally the photo is from?

While I agree that most likely the vent in the OP's photo isn't original, the works cars used a variety of vent styles over the years, the one in your photo with the longitudinal strakes wasn't the only style.

I'd hate to think that someone deliberately painted their car to look like that but I'm afraid that ddp might be right!

The specific vent in this car is not original, of that I am sure. This is one of two Austin Healeys that had "different" paint schemes that day. The other had a polished / stainless look to it. Definitely stood out in the crowd of cars that were there.

Quite possibly the 61 Austrian Alpine Rally; the brothers used XJB 876 in that event.

Unless it is the Kray twins, in which case it could be from any robbery in London's East End. :)

Pete, can't be the Krays. As successful as they were surely they wouldn't use anything with Lucas electrics as a getaway car.

I just love the big Healey rally cars. Just a bit before my time as a rally driver but I sure remember Pat Moss driving one of those monsters.
