Hi all,

It seems that my Elmarit M 90 has a problem with the front cap. The cap fits the lens well, but when the UVa filter is on, it is almost impossible to fit the cap.

I never really noticed this issue til now. Does anybody here know if this is something specific to this lens-filter-cap combination? Or did I just get a faulty cap when I bought the lens new?

I meant to say that the diameter of the front part of the filter appears to be slightly less than the lens thread, which makes it difficult to fit the lens cap delivered with the lens. It never bothered me though.

I am asking this, because I just sold the lens which is in a top A1 condition and the person who bought it is making a big fuss over the cap and filter issue, claiming that the functionality of the lens is impaired. He wants to send it back to me due to this problem.

I'd say it is a filter problem not a cap or lens problem. I have this lens with a IR blocking filter on it, used on a M8, and the cap functions find with or without the filter attached.

Tell the buyer to take the filter off.

Strange issue... my Elmarit M 90 has the std Leica UVIR (13418) and the std. lens cap (14231) that, thanks to the spring-loaded retainers, is perfectly stable onto the filter: which kind of filter is the UVa you quote ? In my opinion, if it is not a Leica original, the buyer has not reason to complain...(none can pretend 100% compatibility with a 3rd party item) , and if it is... well, given that the cap is ok on the lens, you maybe could be such a gentleman to accept the return of the filter only, at the reasonable value of a used filter, no more...

Alternatively, should the heavystar cap above quoted solve the issue, spend the few dollars it costs and send it to the buyer... :o

Talk about a buyer working on the wrong problem. He probably didn t test the lens to see if the focus calibration was on or if the image field was flat.

I never use the caps unless I am traveling ..but isn t it possible that the cap or the outside filter thread was damaged by fussing with the cap. I would start with trying another filter and another cap .

If it was me I would just accept the lens back and resell it.
