Martyh Posted October 12, 2010 Share #1 Â Posted October 12, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hey Guys, Â I am very new to Leica, well never had one to be honest, and after lots of research I have decided to get an X1 to complement my 5Dm2 / 1Dm2n as a compact. Â Only thing I cannot decide on, is the colour, between the grey or the Black. I saw the grey in store and it looked very nice, the black looks great in pictures but I have not seen one instore (none available in the UK yet) Â Between the grey or the Black which is the traditional Lieca colour? I was just wondering which appealed more to long term Leica users. Â I am leaning towards the black, though having to wait a month or two is frustrating. Advertisement Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 Hi Martyh, Take a look here X1 in Grey or Black. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted October 12, 2010 Share #2 Â Posted October 12, 2010 Definately get the black one. Or the grey one. Or both. Now, can you suggest what I should have for lunch? Â Oh and welcome to the forum!
Danielsan Posted October 12, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted October 12, 2010 just get the color you like the most and the camera looks the best, in my case the silver-grey Version. If i had an M8 or M9 i would choose only silver Black looks just a bit boring to me and also a bit cheaper, dont know why. Another reason, silver has the 2 tone look. RockyIII Posted October 12, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted October 12, 2010 Different strokes for different folks. I prefer the steel grey anodized X1 and would have bought it even if the black one had been available at the time. Â Rocky
jsrockit Posted October 12, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted October 12, 2010 I'd rather have the black, but honestly... does color matter this much or do you want to make photos?
Martyh Posted October 12, 2010 Author Share #6 Â Posted October 12, 2010 Thanks for the responces. Â The colour is really irelevant to the images that the X1 takes, my question was more about the history behind Leica, what are the traditional Leica colurs. Â I only briefly handled the X1 on the weekend, the sales person was not sure, but are teh grey bits on the camera top plate/bottom plate and switches on top made of metal? Â Knowing my willpower I will probably pick up a grey on this weekend so I can shoot with it.

Yes, anodized aluminum, according to the Leica literature.  Rocky
jmschwartz Posted October 12, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted October 12, 2010 I just ordered the black X1 from Dale Photo. But I also like the grey X1, too. Heck, maybe I'll buy both and put them on an every-other-shot regimen
earleygallery Posted October 12, 2010 Share #9  Posted October 12, 2010 my question was more about the history behind Leica, what are the traditional Leica colurs  Well, the first ever Leica was black, closely followed by chrome, then gold, khaki, white, titanium and grey versions. Probably a few other colours too that I've forgotten.  http://www.google.co.uk/images?q=leica+coloured+cameras&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&source=og&sa=N&tab=li&biw=1276&bih=571  Of course Leica is most associated with red, in terms of colour, but they haven't made many red cameras and the red dot only appeared on actual cameras relatively recently. If you're one of those people who prefer to tape over their red dot then the black camera will make life easier!

phancj Posted October 12, 2010 Share #12 Â Posted October 12, 2010 Since leica is so fond of special edition one with interchangeable skin can command more $$$?
stephen.w Posted October 12, 2010 Share #13 Â Posted October 12, 2010 I would have chosen the black, if it had been available back when I bought mine. Traditionally Leicas came in silver chrome or black chrome/black lacquer finishes. The steel grey finish is new, as far as I know, and I have seen a few members whining about it on the M9 forum. (Nothing new)

Oh and welcome to the forum!  Pickles and cheese, perhaps a pint of the best bitter.... or if they do warm meals, russian egg or shepherds pie..... but personally cheese and pickles.... and the pint.    ... or perhaps is it scottish egg .... been so long since school dinners, but I must say they have left an everlasting taste/thought in my mind. I sometimes even try to cope them at home.... never can get the blandness right though

jmschwartz Posted October 12, 2010 Share #16 Â Posted October 12, 2010 Dale Photo informed me that my black X1 does not exist . . . yet. The "in-stock" became "back-ordered" and I cancelled (for now).
