Advertisement Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Hi jaapv, Take a look here How to resize photos for posting on the forum. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Peter H Posted November 8, 2015 Share #22 Posted November 8, 2015 Help please... I've been trying top post photos recently and each time I'm told the file is too large to upload. I'm exporting from Lightroom, I limit the size to 1280 pixels on the longer side, resolution 96 ppi (I don't know if that's the correct setting, but I think it's what I've always used) and although I'm allowed a maximum of 1,000k per file, I've reduced it to 800 to see whether that helps, but it doesn't. What am I doing wrong?
pop Posted November 8, 2015 Share #23 Posted November 8, 2015 The wording of those messages is a bit questionable. Does the forum actually say that it could not upload your file or does it tell that there are 200k still available? In the latter case, all's well.
Peter H Posted November 8, 2015 Share #24 Posted November 8, 2015 Before I start to load it says " You can upload up to 1000KB of files (Max. single file size: 1000KB)" Once I've tried chosen the file and clicked the upload button, after a ten seconds or so I get a message in red saying "Error: this file was too big to upload." I've followed the instructions in Andy's video, and until a while ago all was working fine. I haven't posted a photo for a while though, and whether the last time was before the forum change or not, I can't remember, but i have posted many before without difficulty. Odd, or am I doing something daft?
pop Posted November 8, 2015 Share #25 Posted November 8, 2015 Andy's video does not apply any more, I think. Do have a look at the FAQs here in the About The Forum section. Sorry, I can't post a link right now as I am typing this on the phone.
jaapv Posted November 8, 2015 Share #26 Posted November 8, 2015 It happened to me once. It turned out I was trying to upload a .PSD file in error.
Peter H Posted November 8, 2015 Share #27 Posted November 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you Philipp, but I've looked there too and I think I'm complying. I'd send a screen-shot of the dimensions and spec I'm using but it probably won't upload the file!
pop Posted November 8, 2015 Share #28 Posted November 8, 2015 I haven't been able to reproduce the problem and I can't find an explanation.
Peter H Posted November 8, 2015 Share #29 Posted November 8, 2015 Thanks for trying Philipp. It's a shame though, and very frustrating being unable to post any photos. I'll try a few tricks over the next few days when I have time and if I get nowhere I'll cry out for help again. Maybe someone else might think of an answer. Thanks again. pop Posted November 8, 2015 Share #30 Posted November 8, 2015 There might be something amiss with your profile. Have you tried posting a picture with a size of 500kB or less?
pico Posted November 8, 2015 Share #31 Posted November 8, 2015 FWIW, PPI & DPI have no relevance to web images. All that matters is total pixels.
LUF Admin Posted November 9, 2015 Share #32 Posted November 9, 2015 Peter, I'll send you a mail - please send me in your reply the file, I'll try that out. Always found a solution or at least an explanation until now... Andreas
euston Posted November 9, 2015 Share #33 Posted November 9, 2015 . . . although I'm allowed a maximum of 1,000k per file Peter, this may not be relevant but, since the forum change, you are allowed a maximum of 1000kb per post not per photo. Is it possible that you have already loaded one photo in the same post? In which case the system might be telling you that there is insufficient space available for another one.

Peter, this may not be relevant but, since the forum change, you are allowed a maximum of 1000kb per post not per photo. Is it possible that you have already loaded one photo in the same post? andybarton Posted November 16, 2015 Author Share #35 Posted November 16, 2015 Maybe it's time I did a new video for the new software.
Peter H Posted November 16, 2015 Share #36 Posted November 16, 2015 Maybe it's time I did a new video for the new software. I could certainly benefit from it. I think this latest problem has a different cause, but a new video would be very welcome if you have the time to do it.
Bill W Posted December 22, 2015 Share #37 Posted December 22, 2015 I would appreciate a new video as I cannot seem to get a good result when I resize for posting.

Vieri Posted August 6, 2017 Share #39 Posted August 6, 2017 Hello Andy, two years since your last post, and a lot happened in the world of monitors, retina displays and internet. Could we have at least 1500 px by 1000 px, at least for LINKED photos, not for photos uploaded on your servers? Thanks! Best regards, Vieri
plasticman Posted August 6, 2017 Share #40 Posted August 6, 2017 Hello Andy, two years since your last post, and a lot happened in the world of monitors, retina displays and internet. Could we have at least 1500 px by 1000 px, at least for LINKED photos, not for photos uploaded on your servers? Thanks! Best regards, Vieri I hesitate to get involved in the discussion, as I'm not a big poster of photos, but as someone who enjoys looking at other people's images, I just want to put a word in to encourage posting directly to the forum rather than linking to external sources. I find LUF is much better than most forums in this respect (in spite of the loss of earlier images when the forum software was updated), where browsing image threads is often defaced by post after post with empty boxes pointing to no longer existent links on Flickr, Smugmug or elsewhere. Pop's forgotten link referenced above is this one I think: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/243529-leica-forum-faq-frequently-asked-questions/?p=2796992
