Per P. Posted October 5, 2010 Share #41 Posted October 5, 2010 Advertisement (gone after registration) I still expect to say hi to you all at the cafe, but without participating in the challenge. It has not been easy for me to explain the total coincidence that the city is filled with other Leica nerds this particular week-end
Advertisement Posted October 5, 2010 Posted October 5, 2010 Hi Per P., Take a look here Venice Meeting Arrangements etc. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
JanaStein Posted October 5, 2010 Share #42 Posted October 5, 2010 Thank you very much for your replies. And yes, I would like to join all of you for dinner Saturday night. I am coming with my husband, so regarding menu we would like 2 x risotto, 1 x chicken and 1 x osso buco. If it is too late for the menu, do not worry about it, it is Italy,so I am sure there will plenty other food to eat. Thanks for including me in and see you in Venezia. I am going to arrange my tickets now. Jana
andybarton Posted October 5, 2010 Share #43 Posted October 5, 2010 Thanks for the choices I have informed the restaurant and I can't see there being a problem. However, I really do have to draw a line under the numbers now.

andybarton Posted October 6, 2010 Share #45 Posted October 6, 2010 The 10 day weather forecast is developing into something interesting... 10 day Weather in Venice - weather.co.uk
eckart Posted October 6, 2010 Share #46 Posted October 6, 2010 If it 's a row, it should be something between partly cloudy and mostly sunny, what would be perfect in my eyes.

topfloor Posted October 7, 2010 Share #48 Posted October 7, 2010 Thanks for the choices I have informed the restaurant and I can't see there being a problem. However, I really do have to draw a line under the numbers now. Hey from Germany! Just returned from a trip to NYC, will be in Venice with my better half from thursday trough monday. Yes, we'd like to join in dinner with 2 persons and go for gnocchi alla rucola (gnocchi with rocket salad and cream sauce) risotto con salsiccia e porcini (risotto with sausage and mushroom) fegato alla veneziana (calf’s liver with onions) petto di pollo alla rucola (breast of chicken with rocket sauce) for dinner. Sorry for the late posting, but I was off the line for the last 2 1/2 weeks due to overseas travel. I am really looking forward to the day and the night challenge :-), although now I have to lug my tripod with me :-( We'll have fun, Carsten
erl Posted October 7, 2010 Share #49 Posted October 7, 2010 Good news Carsten. I will be in Venezia for the same time probably so may see you around before the Challenge. It may be worth PM'ng Andy about your meal order as the 'boom is lowering.'
Sandokan Posted October 9, 2010 Share #50 Posted October 9, 2010 Looks like a very good magazine. Almost worth getting into hock with American Express for Thanks William. As I left my old company I realised that I have spent the equivalent of GB£200,000 over 8 years ... and that is not including flights. And I still only had a basic card. StS Posted October 10, 2010 Share #51 Posted October 10, 2010 Is anyone in for a drink on Friday evening? Just booked the vaporetto tickets over Andy's link. It appears they need to be bought four days in advance, the earliest tickets available now are for Thursday 14th. Stefan
erl Posted October 10, 2010 Share #52 Posted October 10, 2010 Yep! I'll be there Thursday night etc. Happy to drink. Problem is I am about to catch my plane shortly and this will be my last chance to check the net. I'm staying at hotel Allogi Agli Artisti not far from the station. If I can get access to a computer I will check back here. Otherwise, I 'll keep my eyes open for Leicas.
farnz Posted October 10, 2010 Share #53 Posted October 10, 2010 I'll be there Thursday night too so it sounds like a good idea. I'm in Saint Croce near the railway station too. I have PM'ed you both my mobile number so we may be able to get in contact that way. Pete.
andybarton Posted October 11, 2010 Share #54 Posted October 11, 2010 If people attending Venice this week want to share their mobile phone numbers (via PM of course), if there any last minute changes of plan, we can advise on the day. I will collect them on my "dinner sheet" I promise that no salesman will call
Sandokan Posted October 11, 2010 Share #55 Posted October 11, 2010 Stefan, Pete, Erl & Anyone else: I was going to suggest I look up some watering holes and restaurants recommened by a local friend - unfortunately I realise I dont have time to arrange that. So how about we meet up on the Ponte Rialto? How does 19:30 sound (local time) on Thursday eve and Friday eve? I am easy to spot - I look like Sandokan. Google may help Otherwise I shall wear a white carnation and carry a pink newspaper (The FT), I am staying at the Hotel Antico Panada in San Marco area. farnz Posted October 11, 2010 Share #56 Posted October 11, 2010 ... So how about we meet up on the Ponte Rialto? How does 19:30 sound (local time) on Thursday eve and Friday eve? ... Yes that sounds like an excellent idea. (I'll be the hungry one with the vaguely lost look standing at the Ponte Vecchio.) Pete.
StS Posted October 11, 2010 Share #57 Posted October 11, 2010 Getting lost appears to be part of the Venice experience. The last time we developed a system we called canal-navigation, one walks straight until hitting the next canal where one can easily get a fresh bearing. It is easy to get lost in Venice but rather impossible to get really lost. I'm happy to join on Friday evening. I'll carry a copy of "The Economist" Stefan
Sandokan Posted October 11, 2010 Share #58 Posted October 11, 2010 I'm happy to join on Friday evening. I'll carry a copy of "The Economist" Stefan To which we will say "Is that a copy of the Economist, or are just happy to see us?"

lanetomlane Posted October 12, 2010 Share #60 Posted October 12, 2010 So how about we meet up on the Ponte Rialto? How does 19:30 sound (local time) on Thursday eve and Friday eve? Eileen and I arrive Thursday afternoon and flying always makes me thristy so hopefully we'll see you Thursday evening. If we don't make it Thursday, we'll be there for the Friday session. We're staying out in Marghera at the Holiday Inn ...... will have to investigate local transport for getting into the centre. Looking forward to the 'get together' and was there some mention of taking photos for a challenge? Cheers, Tom
