Advertisement Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Hi ruiespanhol, Take a look here Leica R Lenses on Canon DSLR Body. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted September 20, 2010 Share #2  Posted September 20, 2010 Rui,  It depends on which camera you choose. With full frame Canon's like the 5D MkII and IDS MkIII the mirror has to be larger to cover the larger sensor and touches the back of some of the R lenses when it's swung out of the light path to the sensor when the picture's taken.  But on cropped sensor cameras like the 50D and 60D I don't think it's so much of a problem.  There is a table of R lenses that can be used with Canon cameras here: CANON LEICA-R COMPATIBILITY DATABASE Leica-R and Leitz-R lenses that work on Canon EOS dSLRs  Pete. JMacD Posted September 20, 2010 Share #3 Â Posted September 20, 2010 For a full sensor mirror you should shave a bit off the mirror. Yes this has been done. Search this site for how to do it. Or ask Kurt.
andybarton Posted September 20, 2010 Share #4 Â Posted September 20, 2010 Kurt who? Â IIRC, the mirrors only need shaving for very wide angle lenses. Â My 19mm Elmarit-R worked fine with a Nikon D700 via a Leitax mount, FWIW. As do all my other Leica R lenses, up to 250mm
ezc203 Posted September 20, 2010 Share #5 Â Posted September 20, 2010 I use Leica R lenses on my Canon 5Dii and 7D. I haven't had any issues with the 7D, but on the 5Dii I do have some problems from time to time. Â I remember the 21-35 Vario-Elmar didn't work on the 5Dii, but my 50 'Cron, 24 Elmarit and 80 Lux all work like a dream.
sfage Posted September 20, 2010 Share #6 Â Posted September 20, 2010 Well, that makes me happy. I was hoping for an R solution and figured I'd be looking at 4 grand and change. That just turned in to only 2500 for the Canon. Â groovy. Â I'll spend the other 1500 and change on.. beer.

I will go for the canon solution whit Leica R lenses adapter. Sorry Leica, but your choice of stop R cameras production and no R solution give me no other chance for using my R Lenses. Leica treate R users like garbage so it was time to response in the same way. My R8 was for sell now. Leica for me is dead.  Best,
farnz Posted September 21, 2010 Share #8 Â Posted September 21, 2010 Rui, Â You're very welcome. Personally, my 5D MkII defection is not permanent, it's a stop-gap solution until Leica produces a more attractive R solution. Â We live in hope. Â Pete. For the same price i would choose a second hand 5D1 personally. No problem with 50/2 & 90/2 R lenses. I don't know for 28-70 but the 35-70/4 is OK. hamey Posted September 22, 2010 Share #10 Â Posted September 22, 2010 Good for you Rui. Â Personally thats the way I would also go, three months ago I was loaned a Canon 40D and I used my 28-90mm, 21-35mm and the 80-200mm with NO PROBLEMS except the crop factor. Â I also found NO PROBLEMS with step down metering, however FOCUSING IS NOT AS GOOD AS THE R8 Still better then my M7 though, and remember they (Canon's) have LIVE VIEW unlike Leica's Digi's which have nothing except an over price tag solely designed for the Monte Carlo's jet set. LOL. Â So I am not concerned in what Leica does, I still use Film with my Leica R cameras, as after all thats what they were intended for. Â Ken.
